Bush claims progress in Iraq as scores are killed in more bombings
http://aawsat.com/english/news.asp?section=1&id=1946

WASHINGTON (AP) - President George W. Bush said Saturday he is encouraged by the increasing size and capability of the Iraqi security forces, touting progress on a key measure of when U.S. troops can come home.

The upbeat remarks in Bush's weekly radio address came two days after the top commander in Iraq said only one Iraqi battalion is ready to fight without U.S. support.

"All Americans can have confidence in the military commanders who are leading the effort in Iraq, and in the troops under their command," Bush said. "They have made important gains in recent weeks and months; they are adapting our strategy to meet the needs on the ground; and they're helping us to bring victory in the war on terror."

So there you go....see I told you everything is fine.

So Bush does measure progress by number of deaths.

Just so long as it's not his ilk dying, that is...

16. He loves death and suffering
He and his cronies are perverted people...they seem to thrive on a diet of death and misery. They are like psychic vampires, feeding off of the suffering they cause other people. It makes them happy to have the power of life and death over so many, and to use that power. They are without question the most corrupt, dangerous group ever to be in power in our country.

12. Reuters actual headline: Bush 'encouraged' despite report on Iraqi troops
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush sought on Saturday to dispel concerns about the readiness of U.S.-trained Iraqi security forces, declaring himself "encouraged" even though his top generals say the number of battalions that can fight insurgents without help has dropped.
....
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld sought to play down the new estimate on Friday, saying, "Its relevance is minimal."

Bush also sought to repair any damage. He said on Saturday the U.S. military and its allies are "constantly adapting our tactics to the changing tactics of the terrorists."

"We're training more Iraqi forces to assume increasing responsibility for their country's security," Bush added.

27. Did you catch Rummy last night? First he said the decline in Level one
units was irrelevant something like it's not about 3 or 1 the number is irrelevant. Of course he backtracked in the next breath to "It's relevance is minimal" when compared to other factors. He was just spinning like a top in his own arrogant and self-righteous tone. Sounds like Bush was reciting what Rummy said last night.

... or if they've already returned to Bush's service.

This nonsense is no different than Brown, Chertoff and Bush saying the response is going well following Katrina.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -
.......

"I'm encouraged by the increasing size and capability of the Iraqi security forces. Today they have more than 100 battalions operating throughout the country, and our commanders report that the Iraqi forces are serving with increasing effectiveness," Bush said in his weekly radio address.

...... One of the few measures the Pentagon has offered the public to judge the capabilities of Iraqi security forces has been the number of battalions that can go into combat with insurgents without the help of the U.S. military.

During congressional testimony on Thursday, Gen. George Casey, top U.S. commander in Iraq, and Gen. John Abizaid, top U.S. commander in the Middle East, said the number of such battalions had dropped since July to one from three, out of the roughly 100 Iraqi battalions.

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld sought to play down the new estimate on Friday, saying, "Its relevance is minimal."

26. Democratic Republic of Iraq
A pipedream!

It doesn't matter to Bushco what sort of Govt. emerges in Iraq as long as that Govt. welcomes US Oil and othe US Multi-Corps. The US/UK are joined by Iran in killing as many Sunnis as possible. The Shi'ites and Kurds have made the deal.
