2. Last time they launched an 'offensive' in this area
they lost 20 US troops.

I wonder how many more we will lose this time?

BTW: Sorry, I didn't get to meet you in DC. I had a great time though and I hope you did too.

11. Yes, and my Afghani friends were hungry...
We traveled today from Jalalabad to Kabul, and Ramadan took them by surprise. After a couple of hours of grumbling stomachs, they decided that they merited the "travelers' exemption," and we stopped and ate.

Here at the Mustafa Hotel, the foreigners are hunkering down behind closed doors and munching on MREs that you can buy in the local stores, right next to the cigarettes marked "for sale in duty-free shops only."

8. Make that 5 DEAD...Four U.S. Soldiers, One Marine Killed In Iraq
The military says the Marine was killed by a roadside bomb Monday near the Syrian border. It's the first announced U.S. death in Operation Iron Fist, a major sweep that began over the weekend.

Three soldiers assigned to the same unit as the Marine were killed by another roadside bomb while conducting combat operations in another town where a second major offensive started Tuesday.

The military also said it's investigating the fatal shooting of a soldier Monday near Fallujah, about 40 miles west of Baghdad.

14. I know, Binka
Having your son over there must make for some pretty agonizing days, and sleepless nights. I don't know how you keep your sanity. We just need to get out now, before more needless deaths occur. Peyton must be the one who keeps you going..
