President to hold news conference today
Edited on Tue Oct-04-05 08:26 AM by cal04
No topic announced; first extensive exchange with reporters since May

President Bush scheduled a news conference for Tuesday morning, his first after a string of major developments, including his naming of two Supreme Court justices, two massive hurricanes, and the lowest approval ratings of his presidency.

The president was meeting with reporters at 10.30 a.m. ET in the Rose Garden in his first full-fledged news conference since May.

The event will be carried live on MSNBC and streamed live on MSNBC.com.

30. You're braver than me.
I can't stand to watch the fool. But - I love reading the threads here that describe his idiotic antics.

Our TV is gone, because of him.

But keep me posted; I'll be here reading the threads.

2. What? With questions and everything?
Open-ended? Non-scripted? Or another dog-and-pony show with George riffin' on his favorite themes while reporters provide the stage dressing?

Bush to Hold 1st News Conference in 4 Mos.

Tuesday October 4, 2005 2:46 PM

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush scheduled a news conference on Tuesday, his first after a string of major developments, including his naming of two Supreme Court justices, two massive hurricanes, and the lowest approval ratings of his presidency.

The president was meeting with reporters in the Rose Garden in his first full-fledged news conference since May.

Bush was to open the news conference with a statement summarizing recent developments and calling on Congress to work with him on pressing ahead on his agenda, the White House indicated.

It came a day after Bush moved on Monday to fill a second Supreme Court vacancy, choosing White House counsel Harriet Miers to fill the vacancy of retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

11. Remember he was so cocky after the election
That he was holding a press conference once a month? I guess they noticed the decline in his approval with each one and so they decided to stop. I figure this PC is for his whining base that needs to be reassured on Miers.

17. I tried to watch it. I really did. But it is just too painful. This has
to be the WORST public performance ever by a President. And I am including Nixon's "I am not a crook" speech.

34. Debate #1 with Kerry
That still ranks as my #1 choice for worst performance. This went pretty much as expected, though...contradicted his generals on Iraq, dodged the Plame questions, fubles around with yet another version of "its gonna cost what it costs" in regards to hurricane relief.

21. I missed that part, dammit, but
it's more than obvious to me that he's using a wire and is being fed the answers by someone, probably Rove, maybe Cheney. What a sorry excuse for a president. Miserable failure is the best description I've heard and that came from one who ought to know--Dick Gephardt, the once good senator who sold his soul for a chance to be prez.

When he said, A'm a waar president. Why didn't he say, I'm a peace president. That would have been more in line with everything he's done since the new millenium.

26. Just saw most of it.
Other then what was expected him to say was the stuff about the avian flu that was quite scary. "All options are on the table" (he changed that line to something more friendly after he repeated it twice) if he has to quarantine a section of the county including using the military to do it.Wonder if one of his options will be to cauterize the wound if it gets out of control. because i don't know were he will be pulling the troops from to maintain a quarantine over a large part of the country if it took what 30k+ troops to regain order in No.

He would pop or rotate his jaw at the end of most sentences, almost like he needed it to switch between thoughts. Can anyone else confirm this is a common side-effect of cocaine use?

33. Did Bush fudge about talking to Miers about abortion?
He qualified each answer.... Sounds like he DID talk to Miers about abortion, it just wasn't during an interview, etc.

The press declined to press W on this. More MSM lapdog action.

37. I liked how the foot of the eagle had arrows in it that were pointed
right at Bushes head. It was only a foot away.

Bush only looked like a crook. I saw the bad guy from the superhero comics I read as a kid, on TV, getting away with it.
