Outgoing Republican Va. Delegate Endorses Democratic Candidate
Dillard: Republican Candidate For House Too Extreme

FAIRFAX, Va. -- In Fairfax County, Democrats hoping to pick up a few seats in the Virginia House of Delegates are getting support from an unlikely source: a veteran Republican.

After 25 years representing the 41st District in the General Assembly, Jim Dillard is stepping down, but the man he's endorsing to replace him is a Democrat. Dillard and several other Republicans announced their support for the former director of the county's juvenile justice center and denounced their fellow Republican as too extreme.

Dillard said he's not a traitor to his party.

"Quite frankly, I'm doing this for the Republican Party," he said.
