Reid praises nominee; Ensign more restrained
October 4, 2005

WASHINGTON -- Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid of Nevada praised Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers on Monday but downplayed reports he had recommended her to the Bush administration as an acceptable pick.

At public events over the past few weeks Reid had spoken approvingly of Miers, the White House counsel who was a contact for him during the Senate's consideration of newly confirmed Chief Justice John Roberts.

The Associated Press reported Reid had personally recommended that Bush consider Miers for nomination, citing several sources familiar with the president's consultations with individual senators.

Reid did not deny Miers was on a list of acceptable nominees he suggested to the White House. But he said the notion he recommended Miers was "maybe exaggerating a little."

3. It's ANTI-CHOICE, not "pro-life"!

:grr:

Sheesh!! When are liberals going to clean up their language?? Those (including me) who advocate a woman's inalienable right to the privacy of her own body and reproduction don't have some narrow zealotry that promotes abortion. Adoption and parenting are also CHOICES!

5. Sometimes I think Harry Reed stayed out in the sun too long without a hat.
Seriously, it is as if his brain is fried sometimes.

7. you have a point, he used to be a runner ...
here's another take on the above article from the Las Vegas Sun:

Reid pleased with latest nominee

WASHINGTON -- About 7 a.m. Monday, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid took a call from Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt. The ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee had good news: Harriet Miers was President Bush's next Supreme Court nominee.

In short, Reid got a nominee he wanted.

By midafternoon, Reid would emerge from a meeting with Miers, the White House counsel, smiling and praising her.

Was this a clear win for Reid -- some liberal groups are raising their eyebrows over his comments -- or could Miers become an example of "be careful what you wish for?"

6. You know, I'm wondering about Reid since his stroke..from personal
experience. I never knew I had had a stroke until I had an MRI a few months back. Signs of an old infarction in my frontal lobe. My doctor and I were shocked. I'm going to the neurologist today to find out if we can pinpoint what actually was damaged and the possible ramifications over the years in terms of my reading ability, etc. etc.

So, I am just wondering about Reid. Sure, he recovered, it was mild, blah blah blah...but we don't know--and even he might not know himself--what really is affected in his thinking process from his "mild" stroke...

9. Exactly! Reid is NOT the person who should be minority leader.
He has a position which is anti-women and he will not be leading any opposition against this half human idiot who thinks bushie is "brilliant".

Her characterization of bushies as "brilliant" should tell us that she has real problems.

I think that both she and butt-hole chief justice will help to erode the right to privacy by upholding all the ding bat state anti choice legislation. PLUS she will be a corportoctristis -- pro-corporation -- and this is where the real danger is for Americans and citizens of the world.

When I heard Reid's enthusiastic praise of this half human bimbo -- I thought I was listening to a blasted Republican drooling over Der bushista's latest "brain storm".

With these two in place along with Tony and Fat Albert -- we are in deep do-do. And the Democrats are responsible -- because they don't give a damn. Or not enough democrats really care about America and THEY are the traitors.
