US will hit Syria with sanctions, says Israel

Israel predicts the US will impose fresh sanctions on Syria in an attempt to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad.

Israel's Defence Minister, Shaul Mofaz, said on Tuesday he believed sanctions would follow publication of a United Nations report expected to implicate senior Syrian officials in the assassination in February of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq Hariri.

"I won't be surprised if Syria gets a red card," Mr Mofaz told Israel Radio. " will take actions against Syria, beginning with economic sanctions and moving on to others, that will make it clear to the Syrians that their policies do not comply with UN decisions, the US's new world order or the prohibition of sovereign states to support terrorism."

On Saturday President George Bush and his National Security Council will discuss America's options on Syria, ranging from tightening existing limited sanctions to military action.

3. But what if the rest of the world does not follow the US with sanctions?
If the rest of the world continues to trade with Syria, how much affect will US sanctions have?

7. Dear Israel
STFU.
We are sick of pandering to your hysterical paranoid delusions.
Get some overdue therapy, make nice with the rest of the planet, and maybe we'll talk.
Thank you.

8. Sanctions on what? Military action with what army?
This is pure propaganda.

The U.S. has very little trade with Syria to sanction.
As far as the UN goes, the U.S. is as rogue as Syria.
It is also questionable that it has enough credibility
left to press for international sanctions, never mind
military action.
