Cheney Urges Patience in War on Terror
WASHINGTON - The United States must be prepared to fight the war on terror for decades to bring peace to Iraq and the rest of the Middle East, Vice President Dick Cheney said Wednesday.

"Like other great duties in history, it will require decades of patient effort, and it will be resisted by those whose only hope for power is through the spread of violence," said Cheney. "As the people of that region experience new hope, progress, and control over their own destiny, we will see the power of freedom to change our world and a terrible threat will be removed."

Cheney did not specify how long he believes U.S. troops will have to stay in Iraq, just as other administration officials have avoided providing a timetable. Some military commanders have expressed hopes that substantial American withdrawals could begin next spring or summer, though they have edged away from such comments in recent days.

Speaking to the Association of the U.S. Army, Cheney joined the chorus of Bush administration officials — including the president — who have tried in recent days to bolster an American public that has grown increasingly weary of the war in Iraq. He told the audience filled with military members that the only way terrorists can win is if the United States "lost our nerve and abandoned our mission."

1. Dick, this isn't about the "War on Terrah", but the illegal war in Iraq
which you and your puppet lied to get the US involved in.

3. "new hope, progress, and control over their own destiny" -
I really cannot understand why people - and I don't care which audience - don't break out laughing when they hear this.

"new hope, progress, and control over their own destiny" is exactly what you've brought to Iraq, isn't it? I might mention Afghanistan, too... Things are far from rosy in Afghanistan.

Decades. But then we always knew they need and want perpetual war.

6. The "US must be prepared to fight the war on terror for decades to..
bring peace to Iraq and the rest of the Middle Eat". Cheney can't possibly believe his own words. He is the one who brought war, chaos and destruction to Iraq and he has the nerve to utter those words. How many dead bodies must there be before Cheney "abandons our mission", 50,000, 100,000, 200,000, what will be the magic number.

8. Jon Stewart had the best Cheney-patience quote on the Daily Show:
showed Cheney on Rush's show, with Rush asking about Mier's conservative credentials, and Cheney urging Limpballs to wait and see just how conservatively she rules. Steward: "Some advice, Mr. Vice President: don't try a lecture on patience with an Oxycontin addict."

10. Decades................
20-30-40 years of this -

shall we do the math?

3 years of war = 100 000 dead Iraqi's.
3 years of war = 2000 dead Americans.
3 years of war = 10 000 casualties.

30 years = 1 000 000 dead civilians......where ever they may be.
30 years = 20 000 dead Americans.
30 years = 100 000 casualties.

14. It is you, neocon, who have lost your nerve.
It is you who have abandoned the troops - given them a war that you do not want them to win. It is you who have abandoned the Iraqi's - given them a country that you do not want them to defend. If terrorism were really the stakes of this war, you would have planned a way to win, and given everyone everything they needed to win. It is a sham, sir, and you have lost.

17. Shee-it, a "coalition of the willing" defeated TWO fascist empires . . .
In less than four years in the 1940s -- and set them on the path to economic and social recovery in another 5 years or so.

And he wants to spend DECADES in Iraq? Does this putz really believe -- after everything that's gone on since 9/11 -- that Iraq is the place to fight the war on terror (or the Serious Endeavor Opposing Excessive Fanaticism Among Brownish People, or whatever the acronym du jour is).

Whoops, I implied that Cheney has some passing acquaintance with the truth, when in fact he can't only not HANDLE the truth, he can't even keep track of it. (I'm sure there's some operative in the basement of the White House whose job is keeping an objective record of what actually goes on in the world so they can calibrate their lies every few weeks.)

How do people with half a brain listen to this sleazy sack o' shit without cringing? Or don't they let the half-a-brain-plus crowd get within listening distance?

25. Wait a minute..a few months ago he told us the "insurgency" was
in its last throes..we were told by this administration that the war would be a cake walk and Iraqis would throw flowers at the soldiers..now, it could take DECADES?

Reality is a whole lot different than their little fake war games. Once the beast is out of the cage it is no easy task to catch him.

29. cheney urges patients in the war on terror... MORE PATIENTS, PLEASE!
they want more bodies, more casualties, more mayhem.

somebody's got to tell these good ol' boys that there's a fundamental difference between "staying on message" and "sounding like a broken record." remember, cheney... doing the same thing and expecting a different result is a sure sign of insanity, and you can be removed from office for insanity.

30. Cheney warns of 'decades of war'
Addressing US military personnel, he said that the only way terrorists would win was if the US lost its nerve and abandoned Iraq and the Middle East.

Mr Cheney is the latest senior member of the US administration trying to bolster support for the war in Iraq.

Mr Cheney said that the threat of terrorism would be removed as people in Iraq and the wider Middle East took control of their own lives.

But he added, in a direct appeal to the American people, that like other great duties in history, it would require decades of patient effort.

40. From an interview reported by Fox, no less, in 2003....
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,81291,00.html

His prediction then (after also being positive that Iraq possessed WMDs) was this:

"We are in the final stages of diplomacy" and "close to the end of diplomatic efforts," he said, echoing a refrain that pundits have been using for weeks. He predicted any war with Iraq would end "relatively quickly," defining that as "weeks, not months."

So why should we give any credence at all to a man who has been so wrong before, and whose judgment is demonstratively flawed? Perpetual war is what PNAC and the neocons want, in order to keep funneling money from the poor and middle class to the upper, wealthy classes. Cheney is a real Dick.
