Dobson Question His Support for Miers
Dobson Question His Support for Miers

Thursday, October 6, 2005

(10-06) 02:29 PDT DENVER, (AP) --

Focus on the Family founder James Dobson told listeners of his regular radio broadcast that he will never forget it if he is making a mistake in endorsing Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers.

Dobson, founder of the Colorado Springs-based Christian group Focus on the Family, has said he trusted Bush and Miers appeared to be an outstanding choice. Many other conservatives, however, have been wary of her selection.

On his radio broadcast Wednesday, Dobson said he prayed he was not making a mistake.

He said he worried that his position "could do something to hurt the cause of Christ, and I'd rather sacrifice my life than do that."

4. Dobson is insane.
He said he worried that his position "could do something to hurt the cause of Christ, and I'd rather sacrifice my life than do that."
I am a Christian and he does not represent the God I know and love. He uses religion to get rich, to attain power, and to involve himself deeply in political bargaining with Republicans. Those things sound like something Jesus would approve of Dobson doing in His name...NOT. Jesus weeps every time Dobson opens his mouth. He makes me sick.

5. Bush conferred with him before he nominated Miers......
I guess Dobson heard the things he wanted to hear or he'd have never given his "blessing" to this nomination. bush told him exactly how she's going to vote on "the big one" and he seems quite happy with that.
And by the way, bush saying that he'd never discussed "the big one" with Miers in all the time he's known her is a complete lie. When he said it he looked down and to the left, body language for "I'm lying".

6. This nomination is starting to look deader than Elvis.
It's got a whiff of incredulity about it from the conservative faithful. Dobson is now unsure of his initial support of Miers even though he claims to have "inside" information about her judicial philosophy. This does not bode well for her prospects.

7. In other words:
I don't want to risk my place as chief money maker off of the religious right and give that position back to Falwell - and given the loud storm being kicked up, I realized I might be on the wrong side of it for my base... so time to back peddle!

8. Either that
or someone told him to tone it down. We'd all do well to take this conservative hand wringing over Meirs with a grain of salt.

15. Just for Fun -- Call These People
Edited on Thu Oct-06-05 09:09 AM by javadu
Bring up the fact that Bush's choice has 2 characteristics.

1. We know little about her.

2. Bush did not want to fight with liberals over a SCOTUS nomination.

The last time a Bush president nominated someone for the SCOTUS with these two considerations --- they got Souter.

Make no mistake --- Dobson and his cronies can not stand Souter. This drives them batshit crazy with fear. Here is what we should do.

1. Call them --- pretend to be a supporter.

2. Draw parallels between Meirs and Souter and express disappointment for their endorsement of Meirs.

3. Pop some popcorn and watch the show.

Focus on the Family founder questions own support for Miers
---------------
DENVER — Focus on the Family founder James Dobson told listeners on his regular radio broadcast he will never forget if he is making a mistake in endorsing Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers.

(snip)

On his radio broadcast Wednesday, he prayed he was not making a mistake.

"Lord, you know I don't have the wisdom to make this decision," Dobson said. "You know that what I feel now and what I think is right may be dead wrong."

He said he worried that his position "could do something to hurt the cause of Christ, and I'd rather sacrifice my life than do that."

(snip)

He would not discuss details of a briefing he received from Bush's political adviser Karl Rove.

"When you know some of the things I know — that I probably shouldn't know — that take me in this direction, you'll know why I've said with fear and trepidation (that) I believe Harriet Miers will be a good justice," Dobson said in a broadcast with co-host John Fuller.

18. I remember the last time God sent Dobson a direct message.
After Dobson spoke at the Southern Baptist Convention a few years back and praised their declarations that wives had to obey their husbands and that gay people really creeped them out, he suffered a stroke as he was leaving the convention.

Since he ignored that message, God quit talking to him.

19. Get on with it, then!
So, since you've basically been using your position for the last few DECADES to hurt, pervert and invert the cause of Christ, you'll be sacrificing that life o' yours any minute now? Hmmmm?

23. Could Miers be one of Fitz's indictees?
She really is at the center of all that is criminally amiss at the White House. Is it possible she has an indictable role in the Plamegate stuff which is about to go down?

I'd say that would put the kibosh on her nomination. Wait--I take that back. The President doesn't give a damn what the public thinks, and very soon his brain may be separated from him. Could be fun.

24. The neocons are playing the fundies - and the liberals.
Miers is neither, and she's no Souter either. What she is is an extremely smart, extremely loyal Bushite, like everyone else who has gained power in this administration.
