Tancredo 1st in GOP to oppose Miers
The Coloradan says Miers doesn't have the resume and won't be able to sway others on the high court.

Washington - Colorado's Tom Tancredo on Wednesday became the first Republican in Congress to oppose President Bush's choice of Harriet Miers for the Supreme Court, saying in scathing comments that she lacks credentials and ability.

"She is apparently not the intellectual powerhouse that we could have put on the court," said Tancredo, R-Littleton. "I do believe it was a mistake."

While Miers likely would be a conservative vote, she lacks the ability to influence the court beyond her vote, Tancredo said, adding, "That is really disappointing."

As a U.S. House member, Tancredo has no vote in Miers' confirmation. Some Republicans in the Senate who would have a vote have expressed concern about the nomination - including Sam Brownback of Kansas, John Thune of South Dakota and Trent Lott of Mississippi - but have stopped short of opposing the choice.

1. Whatever.
This schmuck isn't in the Senate, and he has really no say.

And he's not R-Littleton. He's R-Schmuck to the nth degree.

2. Is she not fascist enough for Tancredo?
Maybe if Miers went on record as shooting illegal immigrants and bombing Mecca, Tancredo would endorse her.

Bush Must Persuade More Senate Republicans on Miers Nomination

Oct. 6 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers's reception so far among Senate Republicans indicates President George W. Bush needs to persuade more members of his own party he made the right choice.
A day after Bush sought to assure conservative activists that Miers, the White House counsel, would be the kind of justice he has promised to appoint, several Republican lawmakers say they aren't so sure.

Citing her lack of experience as a judge, Mississippi Senator Trent Lott and other Republicans questioned whether Miers would be a reliable conservative vote if confirmed to succeed Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, who tipped the balance when the court upheld abortion rights and affirmative action.

``I'm not comfortable with the nomination,'' Lott said yesterday on MSNBC television. ``Is she the most qualified person? Clearly, the answer is no.'' Lott said there were ``a lot more people'' who were ``more qualified in my opinion, by their experience.''

5. Bu, Bu, But...
he was elected President. Doesn't he have the right to appoint anyone he wants and the congress just swallow it without reservation? At least that's what we have been told for the last five years. Why the sudden change Thugs?

Some Republicans in the Senate who would have a vote have expressed concern about the nomination - including Sam Brownback of Kansas, John Thune of South Dakota and Trent Lott of Mississippi - but have stopped short of opposing the choice.

Colorado Republican Sen. Wayne Allard, who stated his support for John Roberts on the day he was nominated for chief justice, has not endorsed Miers. "The senator was more familiar with his résumé and his record and his work," Allard spokeswoman Angela de Rocha said of Roberts, noting that the Senate had already approved him as an appeals-court judge. "She (Miers) hasn't gone through the formal approval process in the Senate before," De Rocha said.

Told about Tancredo's comments, Allen Abney, a spokesman for President Bush, said: "The president believes that (Miers) is someone who has the qualifications, the experience and the judgment needed for the nation's highest court. "As people who don't know her get to know her, they will recognize that she is exactly the kind of person we need on the Supreme Court."

11. And he is not talking very fondly of FEMA and the rest of the
federal government either on that hurricane stuff. The last 2 or 3 times I have seen him on TV he has sounded like a disgruntled Democrat. He must be getting tons of crap from his constituents (and I don't blame them a bit).

9. An intellectual lightweight from an intellectual lightweight president
No surprise. But she is almost surely in the neocons hip pocket on everything important. Republicans will make a show of not caring for this, but it is a ruse.
