Iraq blasts kill 6 Marines (1953)
This appears to be in addition to the other 4 Marines who died, although the numbers don't add up. Six more added to 1949 should be be 1955 .. not 1953. These marines died in different provinces.

3. It is NOT in addition to the four earlier
Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 08:46 AM by alcibiades_mystery
It simply tacks on two more to that number (4 in Gharma, 2 in al-Qaim).

The issue now is that icasualties has two less killed than AP. Icasualties is at 1951, while AP is at 1953. These numbers have been off, with AP having the higher number, for about 3 weeks now.

Six Marines Killed by Iraq Bombs

Friday, October 07, 2005

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Bomb blasts killed six Marines in western Iraq, and U.S. forces killed 29 militants in U.S. offensives aimed at uprooting Al Qaeda (search) insurgents ahead of the country's vote on a new constitution, the military said Friday.

The American deaths brought to 1,950 the number of U.S. troops who have died since the beginning of the war in 2003, according to an Associated Press count.

In southern Iraq, British troops detained 12 militiamen loyal to a radical Shiite cleric in the city of Basra (search), accusing them of carrying out recent attacks on British and U.S. troops, officials said Friday, amid charges Iran is helping fighters carry out deadlier bombings.

Eight days before Iraqis were to go to the polls to approve or reject the new constitution, officials were still waiting to get copies of the document to pass out to voters. Distribution began in a few Baghdad neighborhoods, but did not appear to have begun elsewhere........

23. on purpose? You cannot help but wonder.
we lost around 2300 citizens, and another 700 foreign workers, tourists etc on 9/11. We are approaching the point where a misguided invasion of Iraq, based on lies and deceit EXCEEDS the death toll we suffered.

this is just too upsetting.

25. Its unfair that these service people are being to used to draw fire;
In what other American military campaign has the macro-strategy been to use our troops as targets to identify enemy targets. I'm sure it has been used as a short term battle tactic, but as a global war strategy, that's ridiculous and immoral to the people we are asking to serve that way.

30. Explosions Kill Six Marines in Iraq
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Bomb blasts killed six Marines as the U.S. military announced Friday it had completed a major sweep in western Iraq aimed at suppressing al-Qaida militants before next week's vote on Iraq's constitution.

The military said 50 insurgents were killed in the six-day offensive, launched Oct. 1 in towns near the Syrian border. The operation was the first in a series of major offensives in the past week in the heartland of the Sunni-led insurgency.

U.S. forces have swept through the area before — most recently in May — but militants have always returned, bringing in foreigners from Syria and planning attacks to be carried out elsewhere. The military said they will now leave a long-term presence there.

The military has said it will wrap up the operations in time for Sunni Arabs in the region to vote in the Oct. 15 referendum, a key concern of Sunni leaders who have threatened a boycott.

Please tell me this is a duplicate.
