WASHINGTON -- Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., was selected Thursday to lead an effort by Senate Democrats to tighten restrictions on government lobbyists.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said Pryor and Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., would lead a "campaign of responsible governance."

"We have a responsibility to our Founding Fathers to make this place run like it should," Pryor said at a news conference.

Pryor pointed to the failure of the Federal Emergency Management Agency in dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

"Katrina just fixed in everyone's mind the incompetence, the corruption within this government and the cronyism within this government led from the White House," Reid said.
