Iran Again Faces Charges of Iraq Meddling
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Iran's influence in Iraq has been debated at length but inconclusively since Saddam Hussein's ouster. Now with U.S. and British charges of direct involvement in Iraq's insurgency, a vexing question is back: What does Iran want in postwar Iraq?

Iran's friends in the Iraqi government say Tehran just wants good relations with its Arab neighbor. They react indignantly to charges they are doing Iran's bidding. Critics insist non-Arab and Shiite Iran wants to dominate Iraq and is fomenting strife to hit back at the United States.

Arab nations, mostly Sunni and traditionally suspicious of Iran, are deeply concerned about what they see as Iran's growing influence in Iraq.
