U.S. Rep. Mark Green, a Republican candidate for governor, likely will return any recent contributions from former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's political action committee if DeLay is convicted of a serious crime, a Green spokesman said.
But the amount in question would be $2,000, aide Mark Graul said last week, not the nearly $30,000 Green has received from DeLay over the course of his career and which Democrats are calling on him to return now.
Most of that money was donated to Green early in his career and is "long gone," Graul said.
When Green converted $1.3 million from his federal campaign to his state campaign in January, he listed just $2,000 from DeLay's leadership PAC, contributed in 2003.
