Venezuela sent a planeload full of emergency relief workers and supplies to help the victims of deadly tropical storms in Guatemala, Interior Minister Jesse Chacon said Tuesday.
Chacon told a press conference that a Hercules C-130 departed for Guatemala early Tuesday carrying 15 tons of relief supplies, including clothes, water, food and medicine. He said two other planes with more supplies would leave for Central American nation later this week.
Last week's torrential rains associated with Hurricane Stan have killed at least 652 people in Guatemala. Another 133 people were killed in El Salvador, Mexico, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras. Thousands in the region have been left homeless.
Last week, Venezuela donated US$1 million (euro830,000 million) and sent a planeload full of emergency relief supplies to help victims of floods and mudslides in El Salvador.
