Foreign Students Protest Killing of Peruvian in Central Russia

Foreign students held a rally in Russia’s central city of Voronezh where a Peruvian student was killed in a suspected racist attack earlier this week. A student from Spain was heavily beaten.

At around noon on Tuesday, some 300 students set out from the Voronezh State University campus and marched to the city center shouting: “We want to be friends!” <snip>

The three Voronezh State University students were attacked on Sunday at a sports complex on the outskirts of the city, which is 300 miles south of Moscow, according to the Federal Security Service. One of the students died immediately, two others suffered grave injuries.

Over the past six years, at least seven foreigners have been killed in apparently racially motivated attacks in Voronezh, where many foreigners come to study. <snip>
