Violence erupts as Rice visits Afghanistan
Violence erupts as Rice visits Afghanistan

By Saul Hudson and Sayed Salahuddin
KABUL (Reuters) - Rockets exploded in Afghanistan's capital on Wednesday and six soldiers and five aid workers were killed in attacks blamed on Taliban insurgents as U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice visited for talks.

Taliban gunmen killed two doctors, two nurses and a driver working with an Afghan relief agency in the southern province of Kandahar as they returned from a visit to a village, a director of the agency said.

Before dawn, a rocket that exploded outside the Canadian ambassador's residence in Kabul wounded a guard, and a second rocket damaged a government building.

Later in the day, six government troops were reported killed in a Taliban ambush in the central province of Uruzgan, the provincial governor said.

"The attacks after the elections are a clear indication of the frustration that exists (because) of the success in Afghanistan of the political process," she said after meeting President Hamid Karzai in his heavily fortified presidential palace.

1. WTF?

"The attacks after the elections are a clear indication of the frustration that exists (because) of the success in Afghanistan of the political process,"

No, Condi. Maybe, just maybe these attacks are a clear indication that you and your buddies should've helped Afghanistan deal with its problems before y'all went off to blow up Iraq.

"The Afghan people have nothing to worry about. Having made the mistake of leaving this region once ... America is going to be in and with Afghanistan as long as we are needed," she said.

Nothing to worry about? Gee, that's reassuring. Were you wearing a bullet-proof vest when you said that?

With not even two divisions of troops in the country?
And with the Taliban and other groups increasing their resistance (more American troops killed this year than any year prior in Afghanistan)?

8. Why isn't the Taliban...
...fighting us in Iraq? They told us that all terrorists went to Iraq. Them terrorists must be spread pretty thin.

2. OMG! Hope no one was tasteless enough to splatter blood on her new shoes!
Deaths are a win/win for this administration. If the US kills "insurgents" that's a win; and the more "coalition" or non- insurgent Iraqis who are killed, the more it "proves" the insurgents are "frustrated" and that's counted as a win also. They spin the way normal people breathe.
They do revel in death and destruction, don't they?

5. Oh, that?
That's just to protect him from the throngs of admirers who would smother him with hugs and kisses due to the success of the Afghan political process.

10. She's not anymore.
She just landed in Pakistan to get her photo taken showing her concern for the quake victims.

I hear a rumour she's offering them Brownie to fly in and do a helluva job.
