Returning (US Rep.) Shays (R) optimistic on voting outlook for Iraq
Returning Shays optimistic on voting outlook for Iraq
PETER URBAN purban@ctpost.com

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays, R-4, returned from his 10th trip into Iraq saying he's confident in the upcoming constitutional referendum, despite increased insurgent violence.

"I'm coming back pretty optimistic," Shays said Tuesday.

...

Shays expects upwards of 70 percent voter participation in Saturday's referendum and predicts the constitution will be accepted. Even if it fails, Shays said, it would be only a minor detour to a constitutional democracy. Drafting a new constitution would simply fall on a new parliament that will be elected Dec. 15.

"If 70 percent votes it down that is democracy," he said. ... "Iraqis can deal with the bombings. They are used to it. They are tough," he said. "These are more for mine and your consumption."

3. So then what......
they have a fucking constitution and the war still continues, big whoop! If they think the constitution is going to stop the civil war dead in it's tracks they're more stupid thatn I thought, and that's PRETTY DAMNED stupid! This is just the start but the bungling fools in Washington don't seem to realize that.

4. Yep, voting for a "constitution" the Iraqis HAVE NOT SEEN.
Edited on Wed Oct-12-05 05:55 PM by LynnTheDem
IRAQIS HAVE NOT EVEN SEEN THE CONSTITUTION THEY'RE TO VOTE ON.

Gee what "PROGRESS"!

RAH RAH RAH!

For a "constitution" that represses women and bases the law on Sharia. An IRANIAN ISLAMIC STATE for Iraq.

Gee what "PROGRESS"!

RAH RAH RAH!

It's expected to pass, because the VIOLENCE will keep Iraqis away from the voting booths.

Gee what "PROGRESS"!

RAH RAH RAH!

Iraqis vote on 'invisible' constitution
