Police suspected in Iraqi massacre (of Sunnis married to Shiite women)

The murder of 22 men in one Baghdad neighborhood is being blamed on a corrupt police force with ties to Iran and the heart of the national Iraqi leadership.

The Sunday Times of London cites witnesses who said on Aug. 8, 40 police and Interior Ministry vehicles lined a street in the Iskan neighborhood and escorted masked members of a controversial militia as they rounded up 22 men.

The 22 were found later in the desert more than 70 miles from home, blindfolded, bound and dead from one or two gunshots.

The reason for the roundup is unclear, the Times said. They were accused of being Sunni insurgents although all the men were married to Shiite women.

1. Oh man - now it is retaliatory genocide. If nothing else - we should all

learn around the world - never to go to war with anything like Rummy's assumptions on troop levels. I know the war was a lie - and it seemed such a "cakewalk" to go in and clean up Saddam's mess.

Note to self: don't go to war with half the troops. That is some sort of crime.
