Iraq's al Qaeda denounces Zawahri letter as fake-Web

Thu Oct 13, 2005 11:29 AM ET9

DUBAI (Reuters) - Al Qaeda's wing in Iraq on Thursday rejected as a fake a letter by top group leader Ayman al-Zawahri which was issued by U.S. officials this week, according to an Internet posting.

"We in Al Qaeda Organization announce that there is no truth to these claims, which are only based on the imagination of the politicians of the Black (White) House and their slaves," the group said in a statement posted on an Islamist Web site about the letter.

According to the letter released this week by U.S. intelligence officials, al Qaeda's second in command Zawahri urged the group's leader in Iraq to prepare for an Islamic government to take over the country when U.S. forces leave. He also said brutal tactics risked alienating Muslims.

8. Here you go
Here's the link to the letters on the DNI website. http://www.dni.gov/release_letter_101105.html

I think it's fake too - for no good reason. Just - when have we ever heard of Al-Queda letters before? Why is this one so important it's virtually the only thing posted on the DNI news page? It's interesting that this letter stating that Al-Queda will take over Iraq is released at the same time as Bush's speech linking Iraq & Al-Queda, and the subway terrorist threat. All together promote the belief that we must not withdraw troops from Iraq.

none of them have ever been proved to have originated from Al Qaeda. Just another part of the smoke & mirrors to deceive the public. Add these to the phoney terror alert/warnings, its all part of a concerted effort to promote * as the leader in the war on terror.

17. Especially because the MSNBC " expert"
explained they were talking about that Vietnam fell after we left "abruptly". Which we didn't, unless at least 4 years of Vietnamization is abrupt.

What's scary is it does map out what they will do when people demand they leave.

Because you see the bullshit before everyone else.

As likely as it was that an Al-Queda leader would release a letter echoing major talking points from the Presidents latest propaganda... I kinda saw this coming.

22. U.S. Accused of Making Up al-Qaida Letter (AP)
Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 06:44 PM by darkism
CAIRO, Egypt (AP) -- A posting on an Islamic Web site Thursday accused the United States of fabricating a letter in which al-Qaida's No. 2 leader asked for money and laid out the terrorist group's plans for expanding the insurgency in the Middle East.

"We in al-Qaida declare that there is no truth to these claims, and they are baseless, except in the imagination of the politicians of the Black (White) House," according to the statement on a Web site known as a clearing house for al-Qaida material.

--cut-->

U.S. officials said the letter dated July 9 to al-Qaida-linked Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, first disclosed by the Pentagon on Friday and released in full on Tuesday, was acquired during American operations in Iraq.

--cut-->

The letter, translated by the U.S. government, also asked al-Zarqawi to provide financial support and urged him to avoid bombings mosques, slaughtering hostages to avoid alienating the masses.

Interesting stuff from AP today. This makes a nice companion to the story detailing how the videoconference was staged.

Oh, this is my first LBN post too. I'm pretty sure I followed proper protocol; lemme know if anything needs fixing. :p

EDIT to change cuts and add emphasis.

27. The stupid thing was obviously a fake
It had every single Bush administration talking point in it, and like ALL al-Qaeda communiques it happened to come out at the most politically expedient time for the Monkey King.

The real question is, why isn't the "mainstream media" asking the obvious probing questions about it? (And that's a rhetorical question, by the way.)

33. The BBC is on it: "Al-Qaeda disowns 'fake letter'"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4339912.stm
Last Updated: Thursday, 13 October 2005, 17:31 GMT 18:31 UK

Al-Qaeda disowns 'fake letter'

A statement claiming to be by al-Qaeda in Iraq has rejected as a fake a letter allegedly written by Ayman al-Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden's second-in-command.

(snip)

After leaking a short extract, the new director of US intelligence has now published it in full on his website in English and Arabic.

The Americans will not say exactly when or how they intercepted it, except that it was during operations in Iraq.

The letter is not directly addressed to Zarqawi - although there is a cryptic reference to him.

But US officials say it is clear he is the intended recipient. It certainly heaps praise on whoever it was meant for.
