3. Does anyone know what would cause this? |
|
I wonder if this person was subconsciously opposed to the war in Iraq, or warfare in general. Or maybe just unhinged. It could be just a small provocation pushed this soldier over the edge.
Either way, don't they do mental health screening at some point? Or are they taking anybody?

I did read that they are having enough recruitment problems that they were considering accepting high school dropouts.
If they're on the verge of accepting high school dropouts it's a fair bet that they are cutting corners on the mental health standards as well.

16. Mental Health Treatment in Iraq Denied, Untreated. |
|
Cindy Sheehan (I think) in a post on Michael Moore's website was saying how she recently met a mother of a kid over in Iraq who has attempted suicide three times now, and they will not send him home, nor will they diagnose him with any mental health condition while there so as to afford him proper treatment.
Sick, sad bastards. I guess they don't want to send him home with the truth?

21. I wonder how many of the "Task Force Liberty" casualties... |

We won't know until this war gives us a Herr or a Pilger. (Not to fault the great Fisk, but he isn't--wisely--with the troops.)

10. They've lowered their standards |
|
The military has lowered their standards trolling for cannon fodder. Who knows what's troubling this guy. It could be anything. I imagine the indoctrination and the training has ratcheted up to a near brutal level these days -- seeing as how we're battling those satan-spawn evildoers and all...
Fort Campbell: That's the home of Air Assault. Some tough training.

17. Maybe it was an attempted suicide because ... |
|
... all the other guys were saying he was a rotten shot?
Ran out of ammo before he got to the 200,000th bullet (the one that kills the "insurgent" according to current stats)?
Thought he'd be helpful and simulate a patrol in the Green Zone?
All kinds of reasons spring to mind ...
