Miers Won't Withdraw Top Court Nod (AP)
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2005/10/13/national/w123136D85.DTL

(10-13) 12:31 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) --

The White House on Thursday dismissed the possibility that Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers might withdraw if she encounters heavy fire in her Senate confirmation and suggested her nomination was becoming embroiled in "side issues like religion."

Asked if there were any circumstances under which she would ask that her name be withdrawn, presidential spokesman Scott McClellan told reporters: "No one that knows her would make such a suggestion."

"And no one that knows her record and her qualifications would make such a suggestion," McClellan said.

Conservative critics have complained that Miers lacks a clear judicial philosophy and have questioned whether she is the best-qualified nominee, given that she has never been a judge and has little public record.

President Bush and White House officials have sought to reassure conservatives by emphasizing Miers' evangelical faith. "Part of Harriet Miers' life is her religion," Bush said on Wednesday.

1. Personally, I Don't Blame Her
if I got a chance to be on the Supreme Court, I'd fight for it too. I blame Bush for nominating her.

2. Her darling boy won't let her...
Honestly, do you think she even draws breath without his explicit say-so?

3. I still wonder if the GOP will use the fact that Dems are not protesting
her incompetence against them in 2006 - while the GOP is all over the place with rage at how unqualified she is.

You never know what the freaks in the WH are up to when they do anything - more-often-than-not - it is political rather than policy.

Just a worry.

11. Oh, don't be picky
He promised to support Kyoto, too, and the water and air standards. The guy's been a positive paragon of vocal support for chastizing his corporate thief buddies. He'd never allow religious organizations to take government monies for outreach programs if they had even the slightest whiff of religion in those projects, even though the only thing that kept him off the sauce was Jesus. (Right.)

What do you expect from the guy? The only treaties he's ever reneged upon were "flawed". It's hard work. Come on. What can you expect from a guy making $400 grand a year? Hell, he only got a 5 week vacation, and that got interrupted all the time.

Geez. You're such a killjoy.

6. STFU, Scottie....
"And no one that knows her record and her qualifications would make such a suggestion,"....

...well, shithead, nobody KNOWS her record, and her qualifications are limited to being the boy-king's personal lawyer, having him appoint her to the legal-awe-inspiring TEXAS LOTTERY COMMISSION, and then promoting her to White House counsel...where she, uh...corrected people's spelling....and apparently harbored a school-girl crush on ol' Georgie.

Shit, I'm surprised EVERYONE's not suggesting she withdraw.

7. Translation: "McClellan Refuses to Confirm Withdrawal of Miers"
He didn't even address the question, according to the story. The headline is misleading.

8. Well if she doesn't w/draw isn't this a "mark" on *'s record as a failure?
Miers is a horrible choice and will be "raked over the coals" so to speak.

9. They will be 1000% behind her
right up till about the day that she asks the president to withdraw her name from nomination.

(I'm recalling what George McGovern said about Tom Eagleton in 1972)
