Christian Exodus has 10-year goal for state power

Posted Sunday, October 16, 2005 - 6:00 am

By Dan Hoover
STAFF WRITER

Part strategy session, part pep rally and part coming-out party, Christian Exodus met in the Upstate this weekend with more enthusiasm than numbers.

One speaker suggested gunfire if government officials seek to confiscate personal firearms. Another said public education has taught generations of schoolchildren to hate America, and founder Cory Burnell said property ownership would be required for the "privilege" of voting.

Burnell said that with national power, Christian Exodus would seek to determine whether the 14th, 16th and 17th amendments to the U.S. Constitution were "ratified properly, and if not, put them up for proper ratification."

Those amendments respectively guaranteed citizenship, the vote and civil rights for freed slaves; instituted the income tax; and began popular election of the U.S. Senate.

<snip>

The good news from the article is that there aren't very many people in this movement so far.

The bad news, as always, is that there are people that loony in this country.

According to the article, one of the T-shirts they were selling had the slogan "Proud Southern Christian" above a Christian symbol of a fish encompassing a Confederate battle flag. I guess the Bush Fish wasn't a strong enough symbol for them...

12. Those people who would want to secede under the guise of Xtianity
Are Christian Reconstructionists. There's been a large group of these people for some time, many who have had access to the WH and have looked to find their place within the Xtian Right to push their agenda.

Cory Burnell is about as homophobic as Phelps. Naturally, he believes sexual orientation is a choice (hmmmm....so did he choose heterosexuality over his same-sex attraction desires???)

There's a ton of info through google using these keywords:

christian reconstructionists

christian reconstructionists "christian exodus"

christian exodus "cory burnell"

I hope that someday SOON this fundie movement with the intent to usurp, control and possess our nation's constitution and amendment rights gets outed for the scumbags they are, and are figuratively beaten into the ground and left for dead. But, I personally think that it's going to be many years more that due to the Dumbing Down of America and the victim mentality of people allowing themselves to be held hostage to fear, this Xtian Fundamentalism will continue to undermine separation of church and state.

7. Good!
Since we changed the Red Cross logo to a "Red Crystal" - they probably won't let us into their "state."

(See avatar for the new "Red Cross" logo)

3. Christianity as cult

And I'm very skeptical that the local SC'ilians will accept an outside takever of their homeland, even if these people do call themselves
"christians."

Do they come with pointy white hoods? Isn't that the last group who were quite so open in their racism?

9. Greenville county must be one of their 2 target counties
Simpsonville is in Greenville county. we live in Piedmont, on the Greenville side of the river, and this disturbs me on many levels. Theres enough bible-thumping, intolerant, southern baptists here that their agenda actually has a chance

so much? They will be fighting with each other within minutes of forming their "country". They are simply intolerant people and they won't tolerate each other either.

21. L.A. is Los Angeles
Edited on Sun Oct-16-05 01:21 PM by Whoa_Nelly
LA is Louisiana...those cute little periods help me out each time in reading articles. Sometimes though, some reporters fail to discriminate in this way, and I have to go searching for further info to determine the area in question.

You are correct in making an attempt to discriminate between Los Angeles and Loiusiana...now, if only the media would use those damn little dots to help us all out :)

17. Are they associated with the Dominionist?
These "Christian Exodus" sound like a joke, however the Dominionist are a very real threat to our constitution. See this article:

To rouse themselves, they kick off the festivities with "Soldiers of the Cross, Arise," the bloodthirstiest tune in all of Christendom: "Seize your armor, gird it on/Now the battle will be won/Soon, your enemies all slain/Crowns of glory you shall gain."

Meet the Dominionists -- biblical literalists who believe God has called them to take over the U.S. government.

'Our job is to reclaim America for Christ, whatever the cost.'

28. Some choice quotes from the article about dominionists
"Activists at the conference pose for photographs beside the rock and have circulated a petition urging President Bush to appoint Moore -- who once penned an opinion calling for the state to execute "practicing homosexuals" -- to the U.S. Supreme Court."

"Cass also presents another small-town activist, Kevin McCoy, with a Salt and Light Award for leading a successful campaign to shut down an anti-bullying program in West Virginia schools."

"While the dominionists rely on grass-roots activists to fight their battles, they are backed by some of America's richest entrepreneurs. Amway founder Rich DeVos, a Kennedy ally who's the leading Republican contender for governor of Michigan, has tossed more than $5 million into the collection plate. Jean Case, wife of former AOL chief Steve Case -- whose fortune was made largely on sex-chat rooms -- has donated $8 million. And Tom Monaghan, founder of Domino's Pizza, is a major source of cash for Focus on the Family, a megaministry working with Kennedy to eliminate all public schools."

"Speaking to the group, House Majority Whip Tom DeLay -- a winner of Kennedy's Distinguished Christian Statesman Award -- called Bush's faith-based initiatives "a great opportunity to bring God back into the public institutions of our country.""

The Christofascists can have SC, thus diminishing their hold on the other 49 states.

25. Isn't one of their "party platforms" that if they can't turn America into
a theocratic state, they will secede from the Union? I just find it very funny that in light of this they had chosen SC, as secession didn't exactly work out too well for that state the last time they tried it.

throwing people in jail for years. I think they invented 'speed traps' on the way to the beach to catch we NC people.
I can't see them fitting in with the 'in crowd.'

32. good luck with that, folks
enjoy your hell hole of a pseudo-theocracy. Maybe the rest of us will do ourselves a favour and not bother fighting to keep you this time.

by the way, anyone anyone who says the Confederate Battle Flag is a symbol of heritage, and not a hate symbol, should be fighting tool and nail to rip it out of these people's hands. They're using your heritage to preach hate, what are YOU going to do about it? otherwise, don't complain when I call it a hate symbol.
