Rice: I don't want to run for president

WASHINGTON (AP) — For Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, no means no — and no again — when it comes to whether she will run for president.

"It's not what I want to do with my life, it's not what I'm going to do with my life," Rice said Sunday on NBC's Meet the Press.

A group pushing for a Rice candidacy has run a television ad in New Hampshire — traditional site of the first presidential primary — and plans to air it soon in Iowa, where the first party caucuses take place.

At least two websites are promoting Rice even though Rice herself has said for months that she is not interested in running.

<snip>

Rice gave the same answer on Fox News Sunday. This is going to disappoint a lot of conservatives (though I suspect those same conservatives didn't pay enough attention to what Rice has said in the past about being pro-choice, which would alienate the fundie base).

2. Naturally not. She is two things that the Southern states hate:
1. Black

2. Female

7. Nonsense. Do you
honestly think southern Republicans are going to vote Democratic?

Get real. They'd overlook her alleged shortcomings.

10. What Condi says she wants and what the neocons want
are two different things entirely.

If pressure by the neocons to have her run becomes too much, she'll change her mind.

And if Hillary is stupid enough to run and get nominated by the Democrats, the temptation might be too much to resist.

Three years is a long time in politics, and anything can happen.

14. No, they'll bolt the party
If the GOP nominated a black woman, there would without a doubt be a major right wing 3rd party candidate jumping into the race.

The result of a Rice candidacy would be a 40 state Dem victory.

That is why the entire NeoCon Family must be clearly put out of office for their misdoings.

I don't think they would vote for a female black either! They would just stay home and bitch!

Condi won't be supported the the ALL IMPORTANT BASE. She is not "christian" enough for them to start with. Freepers want the likes of George Allen. Condi would be another Miers to the base.

22. It's difficult to imagine how they will package that fact
An unmarried man would be difficult enough, but an umarried women...? Plus, there is no way they can sell her as someone "you'd like to have a beer with." She isn't competent, she isn't likeable, and she is a bad liar.

how many blacks would vote for her for President. I think it would be 20% at most, and not because of her record either. I just don't think blacks "buy" her.

16. that might be a wise choice
if there are indictments, and the lid comes off the biggest can of worms in history, the shit could really hit the fan. Even if Ms Rice manages to duck most of it I doubt if she will be regarded as credible after having been closely involved with KKKarl et al.

Yup, fly with the crows, get shot with the crows.

How amusing! Has anyone told the shoe whore that she can't run for office from a prison cell? I guess, ultimately, it doesn't really matter what Condi wants, does it?

she doesn't run, she "auditions" and is promoted (ostensibly to President) without having to run.

25. This story is bullshit. You must watch MTP for her actual response
Sure, she kept saying "I don't want to run for president."

But I don't want to pay $3.00 a gallon for heating oil either. But that doesn't mean I won't.

Russert tried to get her to say flat-out, "No, I will not run for President," but she never really said that. She used every imaginable combination of weasel-words. "I don't have plans to run," "I don't want to run," etc, but when Russert asked for a definitive, final answer, "Will you run for president?" she kept going back to qualified phrasing. Especially telling was when Russert asked her, in light of her many tap-dances around an answer, if she thinks the ads should not be aired, she merely said something along the lines of "I'm happy people have so much faith in me that they'd want me to run."

But she wouldn't say YES, there is no point in running the ads.

Why not?

Don't forget the massive scope of the lies this group tells on a daily basis. This is the littlest of little white lies.

Condi is running right now, and will decide to pull out or move forward, depending upon the reception she receives and the initial poll numbers she receives.

33. Convenient. Since your attachment to Bush means no one would want you.
Sad that a woman with such brains and promise would hitch her star to such a loser like Bush. She's basically a codependent, I'd say. Others in the Admin. were smart enough to run screaming when the first term ended, she got greedy for a bigger title, and now she's damaged goods.. just like Single-Digit George.

36. Jeb-Condi in '08?
Rethugs are bent on winning the black vote, the last reliable Democratic stronghold.

And I expect until the Dems cease being the party of corporate favors and embrace economic populism, the number of blacks voting is going to continue to dwindle.

Hell, I won't be voting, either, unless and until the party is remade. Vote for a DLC appeaser? Heh.

As Prince sings in "Dear Mr. Man,"

Listen, Ain't no sense in voting - same song with a different name
