Britain carried out Khuzestan attacks- Iran (The Mall Bombing yesterday)
Edited on Sun Oct-16-05 01:40 PM by Tom Yossarian Joad
Iran accused Britain of involvement in the bomb blasts that rocked the province of Khuzestan Saturday, killing four people, and wounding 95 others, according to Iranian news reports.

The British Embassy in Iran rejected accusations of having role in the blasts that shook the city of Ahvaz in southwestern Iran, near the Iraq border; secured by British forces stationed in Basra, CNN reported.

“There has been speculation in the past about alleged British involvement in Khuzestan. We reject these allegations,” the British Embassy in Iran said today.

The explosions are the third series of bombings to hit the oil rich Khuzestan province in Iran, which holds the world's second-largest oil reserves and No. 2 producer in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, since June.

Most of Iran's crude oil reserves are in Khuzestan, home to two of the country's largest oil fields -- the Azadegan and Yadavaran deposits.

“Most probably those involved in the explosion were British agents who were involved in the previous incidents in Ahvaz and Khuzestan,'' Deputy Interior Minister Mohamed Hossein Mousapour told state-run Mehr news agency on Sunday.

2. There's good reason to suspect Britain was behind it
Edited on Sun Oct-16-05 01:44 PM by Tempest
Remember the four British agents arrested in Iraq dressed as Arabs and carrying bomb making materials in their car?

And didn't that happen near the Syrian border?

5. Vaguely.....
I not at all discounting the possibility that the Brits are in on these bombings....

It's just another blowback from the war....

Now, when things go bad in their country, they can place the blame anywhere they want.... As long as it suits their political needs...

7. No it was in Basra
which is nowhere near the syrian border, not that proximity to the syrian border is of any relevance.

4. From the article ...
However, according to a spokesman for the Iranian government, Tehran didn't officially accuse UK, but it’s waiting till the investigation reaches conclusion.

"Unlike the British, Iran does not make accusations without sufficient evidence to support them," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi.

Last month, a series of bomb blasts rocked Khuzestan, halting crude transfers from onshore wells. In June, a series of bomb explosions in Ahvaz killed 6 people.

Iran’s state television reported in August that authorities arrested a group of separatists with links to British intelligence services based near the Iraqi border with Iran.
