7 National Guard members jailed for abuse
7 National Guard members jailed for abuse
Big News Network
Sunday 16th October, 2005 (UPI)

Seven members of the California National Guard have been sentenced to prison terms for using a stun gun to abuse Iraqi prisoners.

All were members of the First Battalion of the 184th Infantry Regiment, the Los Angeles Times reported. The battalion has had a rough year, with seven soldiers killed and 71 wounded in combat -- about 10 percent of its strength -- and allegations of misconduct.

An investigation into the stun gun incidents began when a soldier who was not involved found videotape on a laptop and reported it to his superiors. The victims were Iraqis who had been detained and who proved not to be insurgents, although some were petty thieves.

The abuse took place at a Baghdad power plant in March. The soldiers reportedly used a stun gun on handcuffed prisoners, in one case turning it on a man's testicles.

1. I'm proud to be an American, where, at least, I know I'm free...
I'm proud my grand-daddy fought in the big war to save these rights for me - to fry innocent Iraqi balls... God Bless... the... USA.....

3. ok if torture is illegal why are bush, cheney and rummy not charged
with war crimes?
but they seem to insist that what they directed these troops to do was not illegal, so why are they not sticking by them?

from either perspective, bushco is cowardly.
either they refuse take the responsibility and let their "troops" take the fall alone, or they are allowing, even participating, in prosecution of soldiers who they believe innocent but are too gutless to stand up for.

"We will stay until we have achieved success."

I think you'll stay until the Iraqis have had enough and turn on you in force. From the Green Zone roof, baby!
