WORCESTER, Mass. --Former ambassador Joseph Wilson accused top Bush adminstration officials of orchestrating "a defamatory campaign" against he and his wife, the undercover agent at the center of the CIA leak investigation.

Wilson spoke Monday night at Clark University, kicking off a 10-day speaking tour. He said he was certain that senior administration officials -- including presidential adviser Karl Rove and vice presidential chief of staff Lewis "Scooter" Libby -- played a role in the leak of his wife Valerie Plame's identity to the news media.

"It's now clear that Rove and Libby, from what's available in the public record, used their positions to engage in a defamatory campaign against me and my wife," Wilson said. "This was not just political hardball. It was pure and simple character assassination."

Wilson, who spent 23 years as a diplomat, claims the leak was retribution for his criticism of the administration and its discredited claims that Niger had sold uranium material to Saddam Hussein to rebuild his nuclear program.

If it was just about him, he would have to say "me". Adding another person to the statement has no effect on what pronoun he should use.
