Veterans day canceled in Berkeley
City council didn't want any anti-war demonstrations to take effect. So they cancelled the entire ceremony.

1. That's a weird thing to do.. Why not just embrace the fact
that people can be FOR veterans and still oppose war

18. My apologies for our neighbor city Berkeley - these observations are
spot-on. We've commented for years that Berkeley is the only city in the world to have succeeded at mixing liberalism with fascism.

5. this pisses me off!!!
:patriot:

My grandfather was born in Berkeley in 1893. He was also a WAR HERO (WWI). He was hit with mustard gas in 1918 and he lived until he was 63 years old. He was in very rough shape when he died and the reason is because of his WWI experience.

Berkeley, you've taken it one step too far once again!

Fuck you phoney wanna be liberal assholes!

Signed,

CountAllVotes

6. Interesting...the vets served to protect free speech
But under the guise of avoiding inconvenient free speech, they won't honor the vets.

Another day in Bizarro World.

7. Country Joe McDonald convinced Berkeley to build a Vietnam Vets memorial..
Here's the memorial's webpage: www.ci.berkeley.ca.us/vvm/about2.html

Country Joe served in the Navy before Vietnam go hot. Here's his very interesting website; see if you can find his collection of Nurse Dolls! http://users.rcn.com/borneo/

I wonder what HE has to say about this latest development.

17. "...not allowing Mitchell to speak was censorship"
http://www.ktvu.com/news/5118253/detail.html

Event chairman "Country" Joe McDonald, the songwriter known for the anti-war anthem "I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die Rag" and a U.S. Navy veteran, said not allowing Mitchell to speak was censorship.

9. The Berkeley City Council is known for being a little nutty
There can be a certain point at which leftism ceases to be progressive, and it becomes totalitarian. I think Berkeley often crosses that line.

10. Handing more ammo to the freepers. Smooth move, ex-lax!
This is the DUMBEST thing I have seen in awhile.

I thought we all agreed to just let the B*sh-Bots
be the SELF-DEFEATING IDIOTS for awhile?
Did Berkely miss that memo?

12. I guess they didn't want the freepers
To hog up all the self-defeating ammo. Of course, if you've ever been there, this is par for their course. Between the free Mumia, palestine, anti-israeli resolutions the city council comes up with, I'm suprised they didn't cancel Nov. 11

13. Wait a minute! We need better info.
This report attributes the cancellation to McDonald, rather than to the City Council. Did Country Joe cancel the group's plan for Veterans Day; or did the Council cancel having a Veteran's Day event?

16. The council did
They are the final arbiter of what and what does not happen in their city.

14. Well, I for one love it
The nation is drunk, nay, binging on patriotic war symbolism.

And just look where it's got us, thanks alike to Democrats and Republicans: rotting in Iraq.

What we need now, like any addict, is to step very far back from this shit. Holding fewer Veteran's Days would only help. Yes, yes, you have a relative who's a "hero"; don't we fucking all?

That, you may one day come to see, is the problem.
