Pirro's Jab at the Assembly Infuriates State Democrats

By RAYMOND HERNANDEZ
Published: October 20, 2005
Democrats reacted furiously yesterday to an apparent suggestion by Jeanine F. Pirro, who is seeking to unseat Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton next year, that their party coddles murderers and child molesters. But Ms. Pirro and her advisers immediately accused Democrats of misrepresenting her remarks.

Ms. Pirro made the comments at a Republican Party reception in Elmira, N.Y., on Tuesday, as she criticized the Democrat-led State Assembly for refusing to adopt legislation that would allow the state to confine violent sex offenders in mental hospitals after they served criminal sentences.

"That's a difference between Democrats and Republicans - we don't want them next door molesting children and murdering women," Ms. Pirro, the Westchester County prosecutor, said, according to The Star-Gazette of Elmira.

5. While Hillary tackles video games
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 05:13 AM by sandnsea
This is classic as to why we lose. Hillary's taking on the evils of video games while this woman is addressing something people actually care about, violent sex offenders. I think most people support life for violent sex offenders, she's suggesting mental hospitals instead of jail, which seems reasonable to me. I don't like the way she made her case either, but she's on the right side of that issue.

Last poll I think showed her getting 64% of the vote.

True, but it's still an example of the difference in the parties. and what's important and what's not.

6. ever see "goodfellas"???
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 05:21 AM by rppper
remember the part where all the mobsters wives were doing each others nails, mud-packs, etc, etc....she reminds me of one of those that "talked anout beating their children" and wore "stuff that looked like it was thrown together....lots of polyester and double knits"...what is it with right wing ladies and their fixation on eyeliner and pearls(ie=cheap baubles a'la h. meirs)???

sandnsea has a good point though...hillary chasing video games is about as important as the big steroid scandal earlier this year......

10. You automatically go from being a convict to a looney? That's ridiculous.
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 08:16 AM by rocknation
Offenders who merit lifetime detainment, whether in jail or a mental hospital, should be sentenced accordingly when they're convicted. It smacks of double jeapoardy.

Sounds like she has a busy day.

19. Ever been in Upstate NY?
It's like Alabama with colder weather. Elmira is a sleepy little upstate burg where people drive rusted-out pickup trucks with bumperstickers saying "My President Is Charlton Heston" and "Rush Is Right" on them.

That's one of the more apt descriptions of upstate NY I've heard. Outside of the college towns it's freeper central.

15. Pirro has got to be a dodge. I still say Rudy will enter the 06 race.
Even if he looses it would have propaganda value for them.

Running Pirro gives them nothing.

22. Running Rudy gets him nothing...

1) He would have to actually campaign, and actually travel upstate, rather than stay in NYC and bathe in the adulation of his post 9/11 record.

2) He could lose, and if so, look damaged in the '08 Presidential.

3) He could win and be stuck in a job he doesn't want (a Jr voice among 100 people, and no executive power to flaunt) AND lose his Presidential campaign window.

They could build their national 06 election propaganda around that race.

27. Yep, that's the list I was looking for.
Someone should send it to Ms. Pirro. You don't want them next door, Ms. Pirro? Maybe you'd prefer having them right there in the house with you.
