Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 02:25 PM by VolcanoJen
Breaking now... will update with link.

7. This morning,
I read a thread with links that stated the guy on trial isn't Saddam, but one of his doubles-they used photos of his teeth to show differences between the man on trial from the dictator. If this is indeed the case, I wonder if the kidnapping has anything to do with it.

26. Dentures? Caps?
Someone his age on the run for 8 months might have suffered enough physically that he would have either lost teeth or they may have been pulled or replaced for other reasons.

Dentures would not likely look at all like his originals.

Call me unconvinced.

via the death penalty.

Yeah, I believe he will be killed on the grassy knoll, by a lone gunman in a repository...no one else involved. :sarcasm:

13. Great. The trial was postponed because the witnesses are too scared
to show up in court. Now this. I have the feeling that former Hussein gov't officials or army officers are behind this. Not everyone is happy about the trial over there.

Wasn't the mayor of Baghdad killed the other day?

21. Yes the mayor was
That's okay according to Condi though-it's going to take another ten years at least to win the war. Ya know-if the neo-cons were at least competent they might persist in their mad ideas of how to make over the world. But they are LOSERS. They are FAILURES. And all I can do is weep and wait for the history books.

Im inclined to think this is a fake kidnapping, in order o delay the trial even further.

Nothing screams "mistrial" like having your attorney kidnapped. That's got to rank towards the very top of the list of mistrial excuses, right behind "My attorney was shot in the head six times."

29. Lawyer on Saddam's Defense Team Abducted in Baghdad
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L20394883.htm

BAGHDAD, Oct 20 (Reuters) - A lawyer for one of Saddam Hussein's co-defendants was kidnapped from his home on Thursday, a day after he sat in the dock next to the former president on the opening day of their trial for crimes against humanity.

His client is former judge Jawad al-Bander, a senior legal source involved in the trial told Reuters.

"Saadoun Janabi was kidnapped this evening around 8.30 p.m. (1730 GMT) from his office, which is also his home, in the Shaab district by eight armed men," the source said.

Police and Interior Ministry sources confirmed the kidnapping. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Lawyer for Saddam Co-Defendant Found Dead

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A defense lawyer in Saddam Hussein's mass murder trial who was kidnapped has been found dead, his body dumped near a Baghdad mosque, police and a top lawyers' union official said Friday. In other violence, four U.S. service members were killed in violence a day earlier, the U.S. military announced. Three Marines died when a bomb hit their patrol in the village of Nasser wa Salam, 25 miles west of Baghdad on Thursday. The surviving American troops clashed with gunmen, killing two insurgents and capturing four, the military said. An American soldier was killed in the northwestern town of Hit by "indirect fire," a term that usually means a mortar or rocket attack, the military said

but why would the "resistance" want to murder Saddam's DEFENSE laywer.

Are we to beleive they want to make some statement about the trial?
Iraqi officials said that the killing has all he "hallmarks of the insurgency" Is there some area of the body they shoot people?

give me a break.
