DeLay's co-defendants denounce prosecutor as ruthless, vindictive
WASHINGTON - Tom DeLay's co-defendants broke months of silence Thursday with a show of solidarity and accusations of a smear campaign by an Austin prosecutor, a volley launched just as DeLay was booked on a campaign-finance charge.
...
(Jim Ellis) likened Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle to "third world despots who impose their political will by jailing their opponents."

Co-defendant John Colyandro, executive director of Texans for a Republican Majority, the PAC at the heart of the case, accused Earle of persecuting DeLay for the sort of bragging rights attained by the first climber to conquer Mount Everest.

"The ruthlessness and vindictiveness of this prosecution are eclipsed only by the preening narcissism of the prosecutor," he said.

4. I don't think I've ever seen attacks like this
Usually the accused go out of their way not to antagonize a prosecutor.

The pipsqueak bugman is never going to be able to live up to the image they're painting.

Anyone who knows Mr. Earle, also knows how much these claims are.

Todd Baxter, formerly my Representative in the Texas State House, one of the recipients of TRMPAC's largess resigned today.

7. Typical Repuke projection
They accuse their opponent of doing what they're doing, they accuse their opponent of having the crappy personality that they have.

Delay's people should shut the fuck up...because we're ON TO their projection already and as we know, there's NOBODY as vindictive, ruthless or narcissistic as Delay and the Fuckhead that's squatting in the WH.

8. translation: we're guilty as sin and Ronnie Earle has us by the balls.
bugman is a liar and cheat. When all the cards are played, I guarantee you that the bugman will not be vindicated. Ronnie Earle is one savvy son-of-a-gun. He would not bring evidence before a grand jury unless he knew he had more than a leg to stand on. He also would not take on one of the most powerful men in the world without good, solid, hard evidence. And to boot, I wouldn't believe one thing anyone from the texas for a republican majority had to say. They are rotten through and through. Texas is well on its way to becoming a BLUE state. That's right BLUE. The only way they could halt the color change is to gerrymander the snot out of the legislative districts, which a judge has already ruled unconstitutional. Every dog has their day, so does every bug. My money is on Ronnie Earle.

10. How do these guys get away with denials that have no relation to the facts
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 07:51 PM by harlinnchi
The responses of the spokespersons for guys like Delay never cease to amaze me in that the never address the questions at issue. They'll say that their client committed no wrongdoing or the motives of their opponent were not proper or something.

(Jim Ellis) likened Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle to "third world despots who impose their political will by jailing their opponents."

Yes Mr. Ellis but unlike the third-world countries about which you speak and even considering how much this country has lost with respect to freedoms, military preparedness, financial solvency and the degree to which the middle classes have access to improvement, in the US, prosecutors need some evidence to give a factual basis to any actions they take.

"The ruthlessness and vindictiveness of this prosecution are eclipsed only by the preening narcissism of the prosecutor," he (Co-defendant John Colyandro) said.

Now, now, Mr. Colyandro, calling names doesn't really address the facts at issue either. Besides, ruthlessness and vindictiveness aren't necessarily bad traits in a prosecutor.

I'd think they'd want to stress their innocence. Perhaps Mr. Ellis really wanted to compare our legal system to, say, Papa Doc's regime. Maybe that is a sound defense. I can't see it, however.

14. Isn't Saddam Hussein saying something like that too?
DeLay and his boys must have taught Hussein, as they kind of sound alike and they are all(allegedly) guilty as sin. Come to think about it, Noriega said similar things as well. Maybe DeLay and co. are POW's. Or maybe they're assholes.

22. "third world despots" like the forced abortion Sweat shop owners
In Siapan. Delay had no problem at all taking donations from these scumbags then actively squashed the personal stories from teen age girls who were forced to have abortions in order to keep production up in the mill from congress.

"My answer is, Mr. DeLay, I am that person," Abad said in a telephone interview. "I am an example of an individual who can prove that the accounts of sweatshop labor and forced prostitution are not just allegations but true accounts of working conditions in the Marianas Islands when Mr. DeLay traveled there and turned a blind eye to our misery."

26. Delay Rule #1:
NEVER EVER UTTER A SINGLE WORD ABOUT THE (shhhhh) grand juries (pleural).

This is all about just one single wild-eyed evil prosecutor that is way out of control and nobody else has anything to do with the Bug Boy facing life in prison.

Right.
