Police on full alert for Friday's anti-Arroyo protest
MANILA -- The 17,000-strong police force in Manila went on full alert to deal with escalating street protests against President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, officials said Thursday.

The security alert was raised late Wednesday following almost-daily protests and a planned big rally on Friday at the Malacanang presidential palace--where police recently have violently dispersed protesters. <snip>
