Japan looks to MI6 for spy model

MY NAME is Tanaka. Ichiro Tanaka." Japan's wannabe James Bonds will be rehearsing their lines and dusting off their dinner jackets after the foreign ministry announced plans to set up a secret intelligence service modelled on MI6.

After being asked by by the foreign minister, Nobutaka Machimura, to devise an organisation that will operate overseas and gather information on a wide range of topics, including military and criminal, a panel of experts has


recommended that Britain's Secret Intelligence Service be studied as an example of how the organisation might operate.

Mr Machimura visited London in July and reportedly met MI6 officials to discuss the finer points of setting up and running a covert intelligence department
