Seems to be the MO lately. I think the New York threat was two weeks ago. Was it L.A. last week? I awoke this morning wondering what it would be this Friday and there it was like clockwork in D.C.
I guess once again the weekend news cycle can spend time on a bogus terror threat rather than on bad news for the administration. They could've held this one off for a week though as Wilma will dominate the news for the next few days.

But then again, there's not a week that goes by when DC doesn't have some sort of "suspicious package" or "suspicious person" thing going on. People are always accidentally leaving bags in Metro stations, there was a chemical weapon alert one day when a 13-year-old playing around with his girlfriend's purse accidentally sprayed pepper spray in a McDonald's, and paranoid schizophrenics who aren't getting treatment show up because the voices told them to tell their congressperson about the alien invasion, or because they're vets who think that going to the Veterans Administration headquarters will help them actually get treatment.
