Clinton helps Kaine raise $1.5 million
Clinton helps Kaine raise $1.5 million
Two events with former president push Democrat over $17 million

BY TYLER WHITLEY
TIMES-DISPATCH STAFF WRITER Oct 22, 2005

Former President Bill Clinton remains the Democratic Party's No. 1 draw.

He raised a total of $1.5 million for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Timothy M. Kaine's campaign yesterday at two private appearances in Virginia.

The fundraisers were at a home in the Keswick area of Albemarle County and at a residence in McLean. Clinton made no public appearances.

The total pushes Kaine, the lieutenant governor, over $17 million.

President Bush raised $2 million for the Republican campaign of Jerry W. Kilgore at a home in McLean in July. His wife, Laura, and Vice President Dick Cheney raised $750,000 each for Kilgore, the former attorney general. Cheney appeared briefly Monday at the Goochland County home of Carmax board chairman Richard L. Sharp.

1. Cheney appears, as usual, in a puff of acrid, sulphuric smoke,
long enough to pick the pockets of The Chosen in Goochland, before sneering his regards to the assembled multitude and descending once again into the putrid stench from whence he came.

(And why Virginia ever permitted one of her counties to be named "Goochland" is still a mystery to me...)

2. There's money in Goochland ?
GOP money pockets just don't come to mind in that area.

4. Indeed
17 million dollars for a governor's race in VA? My guess is Kilgore has more. This race will cost about 40 million dollars.

I find the ammount of money involved in politics an obscenity.

5. Interesting letters to the editor this morning in the Times-Dispatch.
Times-Dispatch.com if you are intrigued enough to check it out.

Looks as though Kilgore's ads have backfired in a big ass way. Finally, maybe this state is coming to its senses.

6. I think after the initial impact they did backfire once they sunk in.

12. Short and sweet (H.Ross is publishing these?!?!?!? Hahaha)
Editor, Times-Dispatch: Let me see if I have this straight. Time Kaine, a committed Christian who knows that his Lord was unjustly executed on the order of a politically motivated provincial governor, has a conscience. Jerry Kilgore's attacks, on the other hand, are pure politics, certainly provincial, and unconscionable.

Governor Pontius Kilgore? Please, God, no! Mark E. Biddle. richmond.

10. Cantor country
Those words together are quite ironic but that is the area that keeps Eric Cantor in the House. Like most House seats it is basically unopposed. Sad really, for everone.

9. You better *BELIEVE* there's money there!
Goochland County is a suburb of Richmond. My cousin and her husband live there. VERY wealthy area. ;)

8. As a Virginian, all I can say is THANK YOU VERY MUCH Pres. Clinton
Oy Vey, you folks have no idea how awful the Republican candidate for Governor is this year. He's just an ambarassment. Imagine someone so limited and curde that he makes VA Senator George Allen look suave and sophisticated. I'd call Kilgore a snake oil salesman but that would be unfair to the snakes.

Thanks Big Dog!

PS, I did receive an invitation to this $5,000 a person fete but my social schedule simply would not allow it. Next time.

11. Have you seen the disembodied head ads with Allen
the latest (and only even slightly positive thing out of the Kilgore campaign) features Allen touting Kilgore's "character". At the end Allen appears but his jet black suit against the jet black background looks like Allen's head is floating around in space. I wonder if other people have noticed that, maybe it is just me.

At least Kaine's ads have always featured him out and around people.

;-)

15. Worth turning on the tube. Kilgore's media is pathetic.
He's running nasty ads. Even though I'm working for Kaine and feel I should know the enemy, I turn them off because of the rush of negativity.

This one sounds priceless. Ugh, floating Allen head.

It's Bush approve 41%, disapprove 56% in VA as of a week ago. I think that's what will manifest at the last moment. In addition to Bid Dog's 1.5 milion fund raiser, I'll bet Warner throws in some extremely targeted ads to floow the airwaves in the last week.

This is about being able to live in this state for me but for Warner, a win here means his prexy stock goes way up. He knows that and is a very smart guy (am I talking myself in to a Kaine win!). Please God, I'll even feel real guilty about not going to church if you have Kaine win.

:freak:
