GOP foes eyed in 'Pirro Out' rumor
October 24, 2005 -- TOP state Republicans are blaming some of their own for widespread rumors that Westchester County District Attorney Jeanine Pirro will soon drop her troubled campaign for Senate and run instead for attorney general.

The rumors, which spread like wildfire through party ranks late last week in the wake of a new round of gaffes by Pirro, are blamed by GOP officials on Ed Cox, who halted his campaign against Pirro earlier this month after she was endorsed by Gov. Pataki.

Also taking heat is former Yonkers Mayor John Spencer, who is still challenging Pirro for the right to face Democratic incumbent Hillary Rodham Clinton.

...snip...

Aides to Spencer have privately told journalists that they expect Pirro to quit the Senate race or switch to the race for attorney general, a position she had been urged by several GOP leaders to seek.

1. Meanwhile, over in the Governor's race...
"If Tom Golisano is the Republican nominee, I predict the governor will endorse Eliot Spitzer," a senior Pataki aide confided to a friend, referring to the all-but-certain Democratic gubernatorial candidate.

There's nothing like a well-oiled political machine, and the NY GOP is nothing like a well-oiled political machine...

3. It makes me wonder if the missing page 10
of her announcement speech was an inside job.

9. It's not an unusual trick. They even made reference to it in Commander in
Chief, when Southerland's character had her teleprompter turned off in her speech before the Congress.

It's why politicians are told to memorize their speeches, or to bluff their way through such a mistake. To stop and ask where Page 10 is not generally advised, even in freshman speech courses.

That moment was so uncomfortable I felt sorry for her. Not that I didn't get over it.

13. What made it especially funny...
as I recall, is that the first two words on the missing page 10 turned out to be "Hillary Clinton"...like she couldn't have remembered that without help.

11. Did you read about pirro
in "10 top conservative idiots"?

5~
Jeanine Pirro
You could tell Jeanine Pirro's campaign against Hillary Clinton was going to be amusing from the moment she muffed her announcement speech (see Idiots 210). And last week, the gaffes poured in.

First it was revealed that Pirro's campaign had sent a fundraising letter to Clinton, which read, "Dear Hillary, I need you and every New Yorker." The letter was sent to Hillary's former residence, the White House.

The next day Pirro attempted to kickstart her campaign with a radio ad, but she showed up at the wrong address for a press conference announcing the commercial - "despite a campaign press release listing the right location," according to the New York Post.

Fortunately Pirro managed to save the day by later telling a reporter who asked about her gaffes, "I got to tell you, was it my best day? Absolutely not. Am I better than that? Absolutely not."

In case you haven't seen it...
