Skelton suggests formula for withdrawing troops from Iraq

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - The ranking Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee is calling on President Bush to remove one American brigade from Iraq for every three Iraqi security force brigades deemed capable of defending the country.

Rep. Ike Skelton, D-Mo., said Monday the redeployment formula would provide "a measurable sense of progress" that Americans need to see if the White House expects to have support for the mission in Iraq.

"I believe we that we should set a benchmark that is easy to understand and that sets reasonable, achievable standards for both our forces and the Iraqis," Skelton said in a letter to Bush last week. Skelton made the letter available Monday.

Earlier this month, Democrats criticized a Pentagon report that set no timeline or milestones to directly tie the drawdown of coalition forces to increased numbers of capable Iraqi battalions.

1. How about doing what the Iraqi (and American people) demand?
Bring the troops home now!
But if ike wants to play this game, at least he should send a family member to fight in someone elses place.

3. More crap. How about - pull out Halliburton. Pull out the troops. Impeach
* and the rest of the group. Let the rest of the world go in and help. Once the people intent on stealing the oil wells and shooting civilians are out of there, I bet it will calm down quite a bit.

5. There wouldn't be
an insurgency if the interlopers ( ie: US ) would leave. Hence there wouldnt be a need for a huge army/police force

8. This is major
Ike has been a big supporter of the armed forces, and thus the war. I used to know his son who WAS in the army when I lived in his district in Mo.

Ike is looking for a way to end the failure without hurting the troops.

9. What is hurting the troops
is remaining in Iraq.

I have an idea. Confine EVERYONE to barracks and tell them to pack their shit. Load 'em onto them huge jets, real orderly-like. Give the jets clearance for take-off and FLY THEM HOME. Simple.
