Jeb Bush supports offshore drilling

Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has endorsed a state bill to permit drilling in the eastern Gulf of Mexico, provided it is at least 125 miles offshore.

The bill would open 2.4 million acres of the eastern Gulf of Mexico to oil and gas drilling, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Tuesday.

The measure also seeks to encourage energy companies to swap more than 60 leases they received in the 1980s that are within 100 miles of Florida for leases 100 to 125 miles from the state and bans drilling within 125 miles of the coast.
