Republicans appeal Colo. congressional redistricting
Republicans appeal Colo. congressional redistricting

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
October 25, 2005

DENVER - Republicans who lost a federal court battle over Colorado congressional redistricting said Tuesday they will appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, setting off another round in the contentious battle over new election maps.

John Zakhem said a decision by federal judges to throw out the last remaining challenge to Colorado's congressional districts was unconstitutional because it deprived citizens of their right to hold their legislators accountable.

A special three-judge panel dismissed the challenge on grounds the state Supreme Court resolved the case when it upheld a congressional redistricting plan drawn by a district court judge and supported by Democrats.

DENIED DENIED DENIED.

It's DeLay's doing that the redistricting occured, and it will cost the Republicans everything here in my homestate.

P.S., I'm proud of my state senator (Ken Gordon) for having said the truth in this matter. It is a losing proposition and the Republicans are stupid for continuing to pursue this matter. It's clearly stated in the Colorado Constitution.

4. Is it exactly the same as Texas?
In Texas, DeLay ramrodded through a second redistricting after the lines were re-drawn after the 2000 census. The way I'm reading this, Colorado hasn't redrawn the district lines in accordance with the 2000 census for the first time yet.

I don't rate the chances of a Supreme Court review as very good either way, but have the Colorado Republicans really held up this mandatory redistricting for four years?

5. we went all the way up
here in Texas. The districts had already been drawn once after the census to reflect population changes and was not due until the next census. Of course, that fact fell on deaf ears in the court. That's why our reps went AWOL from the special sessions that dick er I mean Rick perry called. I still think it will come back to haunt them. By the way, the last session (after being redrawn) was one of the most contentious and worthless sessions I ever witnessed. The new reps thought they had a man-date and political capital to spend. What morans!
