Prosecutor Winding Up CIA Leak Probe

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald met Wednesday with the grand jury investigating the leak of a CIA officer's identity, looking to put finishing touches on a two-year criminal probe that has ensnared two senior White House aides.

Fitzgerald and the grand jurors entered the courthouse around 9 a.m. EDT, with just three days left before the jury's term is set to expire. Away from the jury, FBI agents conducted a handful of last-minute interviews to check facts key to the case.

Lawyers representing key White House officials expected Fitzgerald to decide as early as Wednesday whether to charge I. Lewis ''Scooter'' Libby, who is Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, and top presidential political adviser Karl Rove.

Both Rove and Libby joined other officials Wednesday at the daily White House senior staff meeting, as usual....

20. maybe SBJ (standard bad journalism.)
They should say "met this morning." You don't say "met Wednesday" on Wednesday.

White House on Edge in CIA Leak Case
AP - 42 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - The prospect of indictments against White House officials in the leak of a CIA officer's identity created anxiety in the West Wing on Wednesday as Bush administration officials worked to conduct business as usual. The White House is waiting to find out the results of Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald's two-year criminal investigation that has entangled officials close to President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

If they are on the "EDGE" now, that means the coming indictments will push them off the cliff. I can't wait to see who is going "OVERBOARD". :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

CIA leak charges set to be handed out

Indictments in the CIA leak investigation case are expected to be handed down by a grand jury on Wednesday, bringing to a head a criminal inquiry that threatens to disrupt seriously President George W. Bush's second term.

On Tuesday night, news reports, supported by a source close to the lawyers involved in the case, said that target letters to those facing indictment were being issued, with sealed indictments to be filed on Wednesday and released by the end of the week.

Those in legal jeopardy may include Lewis “Scooter” Libby, vice-president Dick Cheney's chief of staff, and Karl Rove, Mr Bush's chief political strategist.

Mr Cheney himself has also been linked to the inquiry into the leaking of the name of an undercover CIA operative, according to a story in Tuesday's New York Times.

15. You never give up digging until you have to
He may not have Dick yet. 2, 3, 10 hours, 1 more day of questioning may or not crack that but he'll never know unless he digs. He may have all three and have decided to see how far the rabbit hole goes.

It's like the lottery slogan: "You can't win if you don't play"

But this isn't Texas. It's Fitzgerald up against powerful men.

Sick, isn't it.

16. I want Rove. Without his role as a political operative...
and his unprecedented willingness to use anything, including the illegal, for political gain, the cabal would not have seized such immense power, and enabled Cheney to inflict his evil upon us. I think maybe Karl is the snake's head.

I'd actually very much like both of them -- and the lottery!
