Poll: Public unhappy with GOP

Poll: Public unhappy with GOP

WASHINGTON - Americans are increasingly critical of President Bush and broadly dissatisfied with the Republicans who have controlled Congress for a decade, according to a USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll.
But congressional Democrats - while preferred when it comes to the economy, the war in Iraq and even taxes - have problems, too. They get an overall rating just somewhat less negative than the GOP.

Bush is in no position to boost Republicans. By 54 percent to 39 percent, those polled say they are more likely to vote for a congressional candidate who opposes the president than one who supports him.

The opposition to Bush is more intense than voters' opposition to a beleaguered President Clinton in 1994.

2. The GOP will be beaten down for decades to come.
But only if our own leaders step up and do something. I understand Reid, Kerry, and others are finally admitting Bush duped them in the Iraq vote. This is very healthy and is the only thing voters will accept (short of replacing them entirely). If Dems want to take the lead, they will have to speak loud and clear, and place the Iraq blame squarely on those who tricked them: the Bush Regime.

Beat them on IRAQ - GAS PRICES - HEALTH INSURANCE
Talk about immigration and college costs, too. Roll back Bush's tax cuts.

The way things are going right now, MOST Americans will NOT oppose a windfall profit tax on the oil companies.

16. Hey. What's not to like?............
AWOL/Moron and the repugs have:

turned the largest budget surplus oin history into the largest deficit.

The stock market is below what it was before he took office for the 1st time under any pres since Hoover.

We're in a war for no apparent reason with no good way out.

The guy who killed are people on 9/11 is still breathing.

We turned an essentially neutered middle east country into a big Iranian asset.

The US Govt has essentially repudiated science in favor of mysticism as a method of decision making.

And treason took place in the White House......

But the moron party has done one thing well...... they didn't allow the moron to veto the "No Call List" Bill.

3. well clinton's weener, although a powerful force of nature
enough to galvanize the planet, did not kill two thousand soldiers, and tens of thousands of civilians; did not destroy economies, rob the poor, sell out the environment, alienate Europe, the middle east, south america and the entire continent of Asia.

By comparison to Bush's Brain, Clinton's Weener is a relatively weak and flaccid thing when it comes to global destruction.

4. I've pretty much given up on Democrats as a party,
given that Hilary, Biden, Lieberman, Kerry, et. al. have actually called for us to increase the number of troops in Iraq. I'm fortunate that I'm in California, where Boxer is one of my senators, but the flip side is Feinstein, who gives new meaning to the term "Republicrat."

6. He's a day late and a dollar short, imho . . .
As during the campaign, in Colorado, he was asked whether, knowing by then what he knew he would still have voted to go into Iraq. "Yes," he replied, thereby sealing his fate in the forthcoming election (imho).

Echoes of Schumer on Meet the Press this past Sunday, who actually said Iraq was part of the war on terror.

Whatever.

8. I heard the door slam shut too when he said "Yes"
and echo.

There were many things that I liked about Kerry, but his inability to be a real political leader mobilizing his BASE was what kept me lukewarm to cool about supporting his candidacy.

I have learned from the last two elections - I would rather not vote than to vote for another flawed candidate shoved down our throat by the DLC after stupid-ass spoon-fed-news America got done consuming the media assassination of Dean.

10. The speech he gave today at Georgetown U. is one that
he should have (and could easily have) given during the campaign, as everything he said in the speech was as true back then as it is now, except for the U.S. body count.

Still it's a good speech. Bet the mainstream media won't even mention it, however.

15. Yeah, but look at the bright side to Kerry's loss...
The DLC wing was diminished as a result. Kerry was THEIR "electable" candidate, and he couldn't get elected. Then, after the election, Dean wins the DNC chairmanship handily, boosting the fortunes of the progressive, center-left wing of the party.

Don't get me wrong. I would rather Bush had lost. But Kerry's loss really did serve to help us and hurt the DLC-ites.

23. Kerry needs to do more...
I have a high regard for Kerry's recent statement/speech regarding the Iraq war. The next thing he needs to do for me and like minded to take him serious is to condemn unequivocally the DLC and its repuke-lite tendencies. And also join in the fight to wrest the democratic party from DLC's grip.

I heard a radio ad against one of Ahnuld's propositions this morning. It kept saying Prop 75 is for "Arnold and Bush." At least 4 times in a short spot. Very effective use of our state's contempt for these two thieves.

Of course not! He's the main force dragging them down.

"The opposition is more intense than voters' opposition to a beleaguered President Clinton in 1994."

Um yeah, by like thirty points!

12. So far, the Congressional Dems, and the Party as a whole, ...
are not doing much better than the Rethugs. True, it's hard for Dems to get media attention; but were the Dems to be more critical of Dubya and the Congressional GOP, they likely would get more play. Outside of a very few (e.g., Conyers), Dem pols simply haven't been in the fight that the GOP is losing.

25. The elephant in the middle of the donkey's room.
Americans are increasingly critical of President Bush and broadly dissatisfied with the Republicans who have controlled Congress for a decade {...} But congressional Democrats {...} have problems, too. They get an overall rating just somewhat less negative than the GOP.

We've been seeing this pattern -- "People dislike the GOP but for some reason that's not translating into a boost for the Dems" -- for at least 3 years now, and you'd think the logical conclusion would sink in: if a minus for them isn't a plus for you, it means that people don't see you as the opposite of the minus.

Dems are going to lose and keep losing until they realize that they need to seek the MEDIAN, not the "center". The winning margin isn't in the ~25% of the country that's currently voting Republican, but in the ~50% of the country that doesn't see a reason to vote at all.

Why oh WHY are they constantly getting bad poll numbers too? It's incredible, but the GOP has somehow managed to take the dems down with them, using their vile hardball tactics.
