Iran 'lets al-Qaeda roam free'

IRAN is permitting around 25 high-ranking al-Qaeda members to roam free in the country's capital, including three sons of Osama bin Laden, a German monthly magazine reports.

Citing information from unnamed Western intelligence sources, the magazine Cicero said in a preview of an article appearing in its November edition that the individuals in question are from Egypt, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia and Europe.

They are living in houses belonging to Iran's Revolutionary Guards, the report said.

"This is not incarceration or house arrest," a Western intelligence agent was quoted as saying.
"They can move around as they please."

2. Bullshit
Iran is Shiite. Al Queda has been bombing Shiites in Iraq lately. In fact, Al Queda is bombing Iran's allies in Iraq.

This has got to be propaganda blowback. Wonder who those 'unnamed Western intelligence sources' are...?

24. "Al Queda has been bombing Shiites in Iraq lately"

Then that would give you a clue who is really bombing the Shias in Iraq then. After all, is this a war of occupation or not? :P

And, there is nothing the US can do about and they know it.

Iran can do whatever it wants knowing full well the US can't attack it thanks to Iraq. Sure we could bomb them, but then all they would have to do is send a few thousand men (most of which are already in Iraq) to raise holy hell in the south of Iraq. The US has been checkmated and they know it.

15. Ding!
Where has "prove it" gone? It's a useful concept, would have saved 2001+ US lives in Iraq as well as what, 30K+ dead Iraqis?

Plus an Iraq which is probably now the enemy they only imagined?

10. What a coincidence: So does Bush!!
I distinctly recall Bush saying that he doesn't "think too much about bin-Laden" anymore, that he's "not all that concerned about him" (actual quotes). In the meantime, the evil bearded one continues to appear when it is to the monkey king's greatest advantage. What an "amazing" coincidence!!

11. unlikely: Iran is almost violently Shiite, and funded opposition to
the Taliban in Afghanistan, while Sunni Pakistan--yes, under Mush--funded the Taliban. The highland Hazara, also Shiites, were the main focus of Iranian aid, but surrounded by Taliban-dominated cities like Qandahar and Herat

12. "unnamed Western intelligence sources"... suuuure!
Would those intelligence sources be working in the Pentagon?
This story was implausible in 2001 and even more so today.
Shiite Iran and al-Qaeda have been mortal enemies
long before "al-Zarqawi" launched the current wave
of attrocities.

Western intelligence sources (like the OSP) also said that
al-Qaeda roamed freely in Iraq under Saddam.

13. Probable source:Ali Nourizadeh, an expatriate Iranian journalist in London
Nourizadeh in the past has attempted to play up an Iran - al-Qaeda connection, going so far as to allege that Iran's Revolutionary Guards allow al-Qaeda operatives like Sulaiman Abu Ghaith and Saif al-Adl to move freely in the country and to plan and carry out attacks on neighbors like Saudi Arabia. Nourizadeh's sources are always shadowy dissidents in the Iranian Foreign Ministry whom he declines to name, and he never gives any evidence for his assertions, many of which seem highly unlikely to be true, to say the least.

http://www.juancole.com/2004/07/iran-in-bushs-sights-same-techniques.html

The "Western intelligence agent" seems to quote directly from Nourizadeh's articles.

14. This is the build up to invasion
today's news has been a lot of Iran bad this and bad that. Well, Iran is a sovereign nation and they can allow who ever they please to walk their streets. Odd isn't it, we allow a Cuban terrorist who bombed a Venezuelan air liner to walk the streets of Miami and do nothing. We should take care of our own dirty laundry instead of worrying about everyone else's.

20. Un-named Western Intelligence source? Is this the same guy who
was a former Congressional aid, who happens to also be a Senior Ranking White House Official who happens to be the subject of an investigation for treason and possibly manipulating evidence to convince the American people to go to war? Say it isn't so, boy. Say it isn't so.
