The ties that bind Cheney, Halliburton (cute picture of Protestors)
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=9d4ea644ab105a06

Last year Halliburton more than doubled its defense contracts from $3.9 billion to $8 billion.

In the last quarter alone of last year revenue topped $3 billion, or $1 billion a month, considerably more than the company amassed in the five years prior to the Iraq war.

U.S. Vice President Richard B. Cheney Cheney, and company CEO David Lesar have fended off claims in recent months of potential interference in contracts being awarded to Halliburton, amidst claims that a number have been awarded without going to tender.

What is not generally known is where the very basis of the work Halliburton does for Defense has its origins.

Until 1992 the U.S. Military was an all-embracing operations-infrastructure employing its own cooks, cleaners, maintenance engineers, transport personnel and so forth. Nowadays it is all outsourced, principally to Halliburton

4. I kinda wish Code Pink would lose the pink.
Why the pink? Why can't they just be women protesting? It's like they're a little bit too concerned with their notoriety or something. Either that or they've tried to make themselves non-threatening, like, "Oh sure I'm a war protester all that, but hey, don't hate me, I'm a girl! A girl in pink, and lots of it!" I ran into some of them in a protest here in Austin. They were a pink, fuzzy, and rather surly lot, to my dismay.

Sorry Code Pink--love the message, hate the package.x( Dissent doesn't need to look silly.

6. I think why they went to Pink cause its a women's movement
and they actually got comments that they were too intimidating so thats why they keep it on the light side!!!

8. That would be fine...
except the issues they approach are anything but "light". It's like showing up to protest a KKK parade dressed in a clown outfit, all the while cavorting with your fellow clowns, making every effort to seem 'wacky'. It just doesn't work--these women, if they're serious, should take themselves seriously. Why not go for the big guns and show up dressed like educated respectable people, armed with facts and thought-out opinions and strong, coherent messages? Or is that just not wacky enough...? :eyes: I dunno. I showed up at a protest on an issue near and dear to my heart, and these women made me feel as though the whole thing had been watered down and somehow degraded.

If you want your voice to be heard and listened to these days, it's a good idea not to show up dressed like My Little Pony. Just a thought.

7. From the Code Pink site:
Why pink

With this call CODEPINK came to the face and space of the national leadership to protest the pre-emptive strike in Iraq. Medea Benjamin, Starhawk, Jodie Evans, Diane Wilson and approximately 100 other women kicked off CODEPINK on November 17, 2002. They marched through the streets of Washington, DC and set up for a four month vigil in front of the White House. The name CODEPINK plays on the Bush Administration’s color-coded homeland security advisory system that signals terrorist threats. While Bush’s color coded alerts are based on fear, the CODEPINK alert is based on compassion and is a feisty call for women and men to “wage peace.”

9. "Notoriety"? Sweetie, getting noticed is the whole point
In the public events everyone has their place, and Code Pink is definitely about getting noticed. I think they're the group that came up with the idea of giving "Pink Slips" to politicians, including Bush.

If you want somber, join Women in Black for their silent vigils.

Or you could try talking to Bush in person -- sure, that'd get your point across.

12. If it is outsourced, why do we need them?

Why can't the government pick companies to do the work and hire a White Republican to do the various jobs.

As it is now, Halliburton gets to have White Republicans do ALL the jobs for Halliburton.

I will ask again!Q

Is Halliburton and equal opportunity employee?

No one has been able to answer that question so I am led to believe that my thoughts are right.
