Senate approves governor's health care plan amid Republican complaints

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. The Democrat-controlled Illinois Senate has approved Governor Rod Blagojevich's (bluh-GOY'-uh-vich) high-profile health care program along party lines.

The Senate today voted 32-to-23 for the plan Blagojevich introduced earlier this month to provide health care coverage for 250-thousand uninsured Illinois children.

Blagojevich has made a huge public relations push for lawmakers to embrace the proposal that would benefit families who make too much money to get state coverage but not enough to afford private insurance.

Democrats say those complaints are misguided and families deserve more insurance options.
