UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT

SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA

In the week ending Oct. 22, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 328,000, a decrease of 28,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 356,000. The 4-week moving average was 366,500, a decrease of 10,000 from the previous week's revised average of 376,500.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.3 percent for the week ending Oct. 15, an increase of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week's revised rate of 2.2 percent.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending Oct. 15 was 2,904,000, an increase of 42,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,862,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,873,500, an increase of 29,250 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,844,250.

UNADJUSTED DATA

The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 303,125 in the week ending Oct. 22, an increase of 162 from the previous week. There were 317,573 initial claims in the comparable week in 2004.

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent during the week ending Oct. 15, an increase of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 2,468,090, an increase of 124,293 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 1.9 percent and the volume was 2,402,533.


Extended benefits were not available in any state during the week ending Oct. 8.
