Grand Jury Issues New Subpoenas for DeLay
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 06:48 PM by cal04
A Texas grand jury asked Thursday for all e-mail sent and received in 2002 by three indicted associates of U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay as part of an investigation into an alleged campaign finance scheme.

The latest subpoenas request correspondence to and from e-mail addresses belonging to John Colyandro, Jim Ellis and Warren RoBold. The grand jury did not ask DeLay to provide e-mails.

Colyandro was executive director of Texas for a Republican Majority, a political action committee founded by DeLay. Ellis runs DeLay's national fund-raising committee, Americans for a Republican Majority, and Robold is a Republican fundraiser in Washington.

Prosecutors say DeLay and his associates funneled corporate money given to the former House majority leader's committees to an arm of the Republican National Committee, which sent it back to seven GOP candidates for the Texas Legislature. Texas law prohibits corporate money from being used directly in a political campaign.

8. Yes, I've been thinking the same thing all week
Why didn't this all happen a year ago? DU was talking about it ALL then, nearly everything that's happening now was being discussed and factually supported in October 2004 (and well before then, in many cases) just before the election on Nov 04.

14. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me, unless.....
the Grand Jury is now investigating a crime unrelated, or in addition to the indictments already obtained. Once an indictment is handed down the Grand Jury is out of the loop for any continued investigative requests for THAT alleged offense. So, either there is a mistake in the articles and they are subpoenas from the prosecutor's office, OR, it's a separate investigation (where such a request would not be made public).

I think it's just a case of the reporter being confused on criminal procedure and how and when subpoenas might be issued and by whom.

23. Love the slideshow link under the photo.A demonstrator's sign at the
courthouse says "Is the hammer heading to the slammer?" Many of the photos show Tom and his wife and a lawyer all laughing and laughing in the courtroom showing they aren't scared at all. There are some showing them glaring with hatred at the prosecutor's side of the room. Some good swaggering photos. He wore his red tie, she, her bright red outfit.

His cohorts Colyandro and Ellis look very tense. Whoooopeeeee! Wow! Woohoooo! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
