CNN: Sources: Rove will not receive indictment Friday
Damn, damn, damn!! Looks like we'll be waiting awhile for the other shoe to drop. But getting Libby is still wonderful!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush's top political strategist Karl Rove will not receive an indictment Friday from a federal grand jury investigating the leak of a CIA agent's identity, sources close to the investigation tell CNN.

Rove's legal team was notified Thursday night, the sources said, but added that he is not out of legal jeopardy as the matter is still under investigation. The grand jury is supposed to expire Friday.

Source: Libby informed he could be indicted

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, has been told he could face indictment in the CIA leak probe, a political source familiar with the situation told CNN.

The source said he did not know whether Libby knew whether he would be indicted.

"We have believed he will be (in jeopardy of indictment) for a week or more," the source said. Libby has entered into "conversations and consultations" about adding a new lawyer with more criminal defense experience to his team, according to the source.

4. This just in:
CNN finds a new way to be wrong! Spokesperson says, "What the hell. We've been wrong down the line so far. We thought we'd get creative." Further developments as they make them up...or hear them in the restroom...or whatever.

5. Two words: "TRUMAN LOSES!!"
It hasn't been announced yet.

GJ could be throwing out misinformation in order to be effective when they do make the announcement. And I think Rove is going down.

9. The bigger story is about Rove.
Now, Rove can go on to create more gossip, innuendo and dirty tricks to assure that Scooter isn't charged.

13. That could go either way -- Rove will claim victory
Edited on Fri Oct-28-05 08:22 AM by Julius Civitatus
So far he has dodged the bullet, which gives him more chances to mess with the case and throw mud until the case can no longer be investigated. This is Karl Rove we are talking about, people!

This is a victory for a guy whose ethical behavior should have landed him in prison about a dozen times in the last two decades.

31. He hasn't dodged a bullet
The threat of indictment will be hanging over him, curtailing his effectiveness tremendously. A continuing investigation is the last thing the Bush WH wants, believe me.

19. Not so fast...
An ONGOING investigation is almost worst case scenario for the WH because--like viewers who watch the news to find out about an upcoming hurricaine--people will be constantly watching and speculating and what/if-ing. The story will remain on its most prominent perch while the investigation is unresolved, especially now that it looks like they will already have bagged Libby.

Prolonged media exposure is almost as damaging as prosecution here, maybe more. People don't decide their opinions based on convictions (See OJ and MJ). Rove will be tried in the media every night, and along with him, Bush and his corrupt cronies as well as the policy they try to pedal.

Rove is trying to cut a deal. The real question is, how does he hand Fitzgerald enough goods to make it happen?

26. It's a chance for Rove to play dirty tricks and muddy the waters
Edited on Fri Oct-28-05 10:23 AM by Julius Civitatus
and you know he will do anything to avoid jail or trouble for his agenda. I think it's an error not to have Rove indicted at the same time. Fitzgerald knows what he's doing, of course. Maybe he didn't have enough evidence, maybe Rove pleaded in the last minute and pushed Libby under the bus.

My belief is that not getting Rove canned is just a victory for Rove. This is a guy that has been behaving in unethical and borderline criminal manners for two decades, and should have been canned a dozen times already. This is just a victory for him: the sociopath beats the system again. "They ain't got nottin' on me!"

If I know Rove's behavior, this will only encourage him further to mess with the investigation and try to stop it using any other government means he can find. Wait and see: my bet is that Rove will "swiftboat" Fitzgerald, or push through actions to have Bush stop the investigation on some legalese. You heard it here first.

17. However, has Rove been cutting deals?
From what I'm hearing, Fitzgerald/Grand Jury has not made a decision whether to indict Rove. Rove is still "under investigation." This information is coming from Rove's lawyer giving it the best spin (or maybe it's the media giving it the positive spin). They are reading a letter from Rove's lawyer stating his status has not changed.

(Time to mute TV. Bush is trying to scare everyone again by using the bullypulpit to speak on...you guessed it!! The war on terror. :puke: )

18. Don't be so sure!
He may be cutting deals. His status hasn't changed.

Fitzgerald may very well be putting the screws to him through Libby in an effort to get an even bigger fish...Cheney.

30. Lump of coal for Fitzmas
Rove could molest John Roberts kids at half time of the Super Bowl and would somehow escape prosecution on some technicality. I am so disappointed -- assuming the news reports are accurate. Sure, he may still be under investigation, but if Fitz had the goods on Rove the indictment would be announced today. This really sucks.

Sources: Rove Won't Be Indicted Today By JOHN SOLOMON and PETE YOST, Associated Press Writers
13 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Karl Rove escaped indictment in the CIA leak case Friday but remained under investigation as the embattled White House braced for charges against Vice President Dick Cheney's top adviser.

Rove's lawyer was told by Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald's office that investigators had not completed their probe into Rove's conduct, said two people close to the Republican strategist, speaking only on condition of anonymity because of grand jury secrecy.

Rove's lawyers were told there still were matters to resolve before the prosecutor "decides what he is going to do, so Mr. Rove will not be indicted today," one of the people said Friday.

Fitzgerald scheduled a 2 p.m. EDT news conference in Washington, along with an FBI investigator in the case.

these reports are wrong and Rove will be indicted, but I suppose it's still possible the investigation will continue and he could get charged at a later time.
