Source: Prosecutor to seek Libby indictment
Edited on Fri Oct-28-05 09:59 AM by fearnobush
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Patrick Fitzgerald, the special prosecutor in the CIA leak probe, plans to ask members of the grand jury to indict Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, a lawyer involved in the case told CNN Friday.

The attorney said that Fitzgerald believes Libby misled investigators.

Indictments in the case would mark a milestone in a nearly two-year investigation into the public unmasking of an undercover CIA operative. Fitzgerald has scheduled a 2 p.m. ET news conference.

The New York Times reported on Friday that lawyers in the case said Libby will be charged with making false statements to a federal grand jury. (Profile)

2. It is probably good they don't indict rove today ... because,
bush would just replace rove with some nearly as good propagandist/strategist and pick up where they left off. This way, we have a distracted and partially incapacitated rove sitting in the job.

3. There might be someone in the wings who has
the skills but I'd be surprised if they could so easily find someone quite so amoral.

4. No replacing Rove
Rove is an evil genious. Whether you like him/hate him, he is phenominal at what he does. He gets idiots elected and runs a PR machine like non-other.

But Rove is obviously not invincable. Look at the approval ratings. They dug themselves such a deep hole they can never get out of it. You can only lie, cover up, cheat, deceive, etc. so much before karma gets you.

White House officials braced for the possibility that Vice President Cheney's chief of staff would be indicted in the CIA leak case today, while the lawyer for Karl Rove said the presidential confidant's case is still under investigation.

"The Special Counsel has advised Mr. Rove that he has made no decision about whether or not to bring charges and that Mr. Rove's status has not changed," said Rove's attorney, Robert Luskin, in a statement released this morning. "Mr. Rove will continue to cooperate fully with the Special Counsel's efforts to complete the investigation. We are confident that when the Special Counsel finishes his work, he will conclude that Mr. Rove has done nothing wrong."

Special Counsel Patrick J. Fitzgerald has one indictment in hand, according to a source close to the investigation. Officials at the courthouse plan to release that indictment and a press release from Fitzgerald about noon after he has presented it to a federal magistrate. Fitzgerald is expected to hold a press conference at 2 p.m.

Rove provided new information to Fitzgerald during eleventh-hour negotiations that "gave Fitzgerald pause" about charging Bush's senior strategist, said a source close to Rove. "The prosecutor has to resolve those issues before he decides what to do."......
