Edited on Fri Oct-28-05 04:14 PM by joeunderdog
Fitz as much as said that the charges brought served the purpose of addressing the crimes in such a way that they could be prosecuted. On a day that he stayed "within the 4 corners" of the indictments, he more than implied that someone outed a CIA agent and this was a matter of--hold onto your hat, President Bush--NATIONAL SECURITY.

Sean Hannity is already saying that there was no "underlying crime" although that did not seem to matter with Martha or Bill, did it? The Clinton impeachment on this charge will haunt their guilty white asses for a long time.

Whether or not anyone else from BushCo. is indicted for lying or outing or obstructing, everyone knows what they did. They are guilty in the court of public opinion regardless. After the Fitzgeral performance today, the Pukes' talking points are ridiculous reaches for even the biggest RW busllshitters.

I hope this drags on and on and on and on....

2. Here are some of the details from that article
WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, was indicted Friday on the charge of making false statements to the grand jury investigating the leak of a covert CIA agent’s name.

The indictment could trigger a shake-up at the White House, already on the defensive over the response to Hurricane Katrina, opposition to the Iraq war and the withdrawal of President Bush’s nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court, Harriet Miers.

Details were to be outlined at 2 p.m. ET, when Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald will hold a press conference at the Justice Department. The grand jury that handed up the indictment had been hearing the case for nearly two years and its term expires Friday.

Wilson lied, he wasn't 'qualified' to go to Niger, his wife sent him, his wife wasn't 'undercover', everyone 'knew' she worked for CIA (except the neighbors who were on MSNBC the other night), they never said her last name (or first name, or either depending on which nitwit is talking), no one got hurt or killed because of it. Any others?

75. Not exactly!
I did not have the impression that Fitzgerald is going to deal with the actual leak. He said that he has to prove state of mind/motive/intention and that that is hard to do. I thought Fitzgerald said the investigation part of his work was over! It's up to the press, the bloggers and Congress to get more information and push this further. We have to win back the House next year or we will never learn the whole truth.

All we know now is that Libby is charged with lying, perjury and obstruction of justice. The big hope is that Libby may weigh the potential jail sentences he faces on the existing charges against the risk of the sentence he will face if he cooperates and decide to tell the truth and the whole truth. At this point, we don't know what will happen. We can hope that Rove will cooperate with the prosecutor so we can learn what really happened, but I would not count on that. Not only is he a pathological political operative and probably also a pathological liar so his cooperation probably won't be worth much unless he is told he faces serious prison terms and has a change of personality.

Perhaps they're waiting for Rove to roll over on the bigger fish before he himself gets "a deal." I suspect they're still negotiating Rove's "deal."

Libby seems to have gotten a deal for rolling over on Cheney.

29. I doubt that seriously. He's just negotiating for a plea down.
They've already offered him one, and he refused it. So, he's thinking he can dicker them down, but, Fitz can drop charges on his head any minute. Both Miller and Libby said Rove was the leak. This is just negotiation time. Not the end.

We were all still hoping for the price pig, Karl Rove, to get a few indictments he so rightfully deserves.

Getting Libby is fine, but I was expecting Rove. This is the equivalent of getting underwear for Fitzmas, instead of the pony you wanted.

"On the first day of Fitzmas..."

looks like this may in fact be the gift that keeps on giving. Rove's not off the hook. None of them are.

http://www.wtkr.com/global/story.asp?s=4042769&ClientType=Printable

Rove's lawyer said he was told by the prosecutor's office that
investigators had "made no decision about whether or not to bring
charges" and would continue their probe into Rove's conduct.

Fitzgerald's spokesman, Randall Samborn, said the investigation will
continue but with a new grand jury. The term of the current grand jury
cannot be extended beyond today.

27. AP: Cheney Adviser Indicted in CIA Leak Case
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/cia_leak_investigation

WASHINGTON - Vice presidential adviser I. Lewis "Scooter' Libby Jr. was indicted Friday on charges of obstruction of justice, making a false statement and perjury in the CIA leak case.

Karl Rove, President Bush's closest adviser, escaped indictment Friday but remained under investigation, his legal status a looming political problem for the White House.

The indictments stem from a two-year investigation by special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald into whether Rove, Libby or any other administration officials knowingly revealed the identity of CIA agent Valerie Plame or lied about their involvement to investigators.

The five-count indictment accuses Libby of lying about how and when he learned about CIA official Valerie Plane's identity in 2003 and then told reporters about it. The information was classified.

Any trial would shine a spotlight on the secret deliberations of Bush and his team as they built the case for war against Iraq.

:woohoo:

Any trial would shine a spotlight on the secret deliberations of Bush and his team as they built the case for war against Iraq.

This is the beginning of the beginning... there are going to be many more than just 12 days of Fitzmas!

And Rove is totally and specifically NOT off the hook. It's a bummer that he won't be doing the perp walk today, but it's nice to have something to look forward to--maybe (depending on who he flips on) something even better than his own indictment.

62. Actually,
Rove's evil genius seems to be specialized in the form of election fraud and head thumping of enemies. As for actual war crimes and the conspiracy to wage war for false pretenses, that all comes from the "real" president's office - Cheney. Getting Scooter is a much bigger deal from that perspective, don't you think?

Sure it would have been nice to see little piggy Rove get it in the first round too, but I think his day is still to come.

For now, I'm happy with a Scooter for Fitzmas. I can live with some delayed gratification for the piggy bank. The pair of twin ponies would be Bushler and Dark Lord Cheney. Maybe next Fitzmas, just in time for the 2006 elections? That would be so sweeeeeet.

43. This is just a start, I think.
I always doubted that we would have one "Fitzmas", where a dozen or more indictments rolled out of his office. We're likely to see them go down two or three at a time, and Libby is just a start. Most expect Libby to resign soon. We can expect the same from any indicted person that is not an executive or, possibly, a cabinet member.

58. What about the crime that started the investigation?
Will there be no indictments for exposing a CIA undercover operative?

60. Yes there will. The investigation is WIDENING today, not coming to an end.
Rove is in even deeper trouble now. He didn't get indicted today because the "new info" Fitz has gotten in the last 2-3 days leads to even bigger charges for Rove......watch, I'll bet ya.
