President's Remarks on the Resignation of Scooter Libby
The South Lawn

3:51 P.M. EDT

THE PRESIDENT: Today I accepted the resignation of Scooter Libby. Scooter has worked tirelessly on behalf of the American people and sacrificed much in the service to this country. He served the Vice President and me through extraordinary times in our nation's history.

Special Counsel Fitzgerald's investigation and ongoing legal proceedings are serious, and now the proceedings -- the process moves into a new phase. In our system, each individual is presumed innocent and entitled to due process and a fair trial.

While we're all saddened by today's news, we remain wholly focused on the many issues and opportunities facing this country. I got a job to do, and so do the people who work in the White House. We got a job to protect the American people, and that's what we'll continue working hard to do.

I look forward to working with Congress on policies to keep this economy moving. And pretty soon I'll be naming somebody to the Supreme Court.

Thank you all very much.

END 3:53 P.M. EDT

3. That was a new low
Maybe it is just as well it was brief. He should have just mailed it in though - it hardly constitutes a press conference if the press aren't allowed to ask questions.

Why does he make it all sound so juvenille? Scooter? Really. You are supposed to act like the President of the United States. Show some dignity. Refer to the indicted White House felon as Irving.

Jeeez, these pretend-Texans have no respect at all.

His next "agenda" item, monkeying with the tax code to further shift the burden from the filthy rich to the middle class...

Was Libby *'s speechwriter and now he is writing his own? A fifth grader could write a better line.

17. Libby "sacrificed" for this country? HUH? How can * say that with
a straight face when the parents and loved ones of over 2000 American men and women have died for his lies and he hasn't addressed their "sacrifice" in such tones?

Libby sacrificed what? Did he serve in a war zone? Did he give up perks, like a chauffeur, or paid vacations? Stock options? Trust funds? Wow...what sacrfices......

The unmitigated gall of these people talking sacrifice out of their silver-lined mouths.

Yeah, well, WE have had to sacrifice honor, decency, living wages, health care, and clean elections since YOU stole office... so don't tell us Scooter Libby sacrificed anything for this country.

(I wrote this on another thread and I'm still not over my anger....)

18. He's facing prison time for lying to cover up what took place
I feel sure that in bush's* eyes that was one heck of a sacrifice. Remember, the average American Joe is expendable to him.

I think bush* was speaking in code to Libby. You'd better take it like a good little pawn, this was your service to me. When/if I can I will pardon you, just wait it out and all will be fine.
