Arab League says end of Iraq unrest hinges on US pullout
CAIRO (AFP) - Arab League Secretary General Amr Mussa charged in an interview that Washington's refusal to offer a troop withdrawal timetable was threatening the stability of Iraq.

"The United States don't believe this issue to be linked to reconciliation efforts while the Arab League argues that it is key," he told the state-owned Roz al-Yusef daily.

Mussa has recently launched an Arab drive aimed at ironing out differences between Iraq's ethnic and religious communities over the political future of the war-torn country.

"The end of foreign occupation is one of the pre-requisites if we are to witness any progress in our efforts to help Iraq go forward," Mussa said Sunday.

24. You don't have to read minds to know what they want.
Given free reign, the "Arab mind" would likely reconceive that idea they keep having, which is the idea of pushing the ethnic Persians and Shiites into Iran, the Kurds into Iran and Turkey, and the Israelis "into the sea," as that cute little euphemism for extermination goes.

Saddam Hussein was a bastard, no doubt, but much of what he did came with the tacit approval of the Arab League. If the Arab mind is so fair and understanding of the situation in Iraq, why not let's just invite the Arab League to take over for us? Just make sure the highways headed east are open, because that's where 60% of the population will be headed at gunpoint.

2. But, it does make me wonder if the Bushistas will grab onto this
as their "get out of Iraq to save face" card, and start talking withdrawal ahead of the 2006 elections.

3. * needs to send Karen Hughes down to convice them otherwise
She can handout books, driver permits and Texas government democracy pamphlets.
She is such an expert, I'm sure she can correct this incorrect thinking on the Arab League's part.

5. Maybe if they tried stopping their citizens from
going to Iraq and joining the insurgency that might do something too. Or at least condemn insurgency attacks against civilians.

6. I agree with you, that they have to stop Iraqis from joining up
that would stop 95% of the insurgency and send the other 5% back home.

7. It's those outside agitators who are causing the problem,
just like they caused problems in the American South during the 1960s. Yeah. Sure.

Maybe, just maybe, the Iraqi people don't like BushAmerica killing them and stealing their oil.

No, that can't be right. It's an honor to be invaded by BushAmerica.

8. I'm not disputing the 5% statistic
I would just like to see the benevolent and Arab supporting governments of the Arab League speak out against the killing of civilians by the freedom fighters(tm)

Islamic sensitivities are riled much of the time. I wish some of this was aimed at those who commit murderous crimes in the name of Islam.

1.The head of the Arab League issued a strong condemnation of insurgent violence in Iraq on Thursday, trying to overcome suspicion of the pan-Arab body from the country's Shiite and Kurdish leaders on his first visit since the 2003 fall of Saddam Hussein.

You ...NO COMMENT

2".Do you want all non-muslims dead, or are you willing for us to convert?"
If I wanted all non-muslims dead then I would have to kill myself

Obviously an inane and inflammatory, flame-baiting comment by you, which has the logic of argument
of a creationist fundamentalist.

3.Your response to Lieutenant General James N. Mattis comments on killing people is fun
You.....NO COMMENT

4.Please try to be more intelligent and informed in your responses

10. Those "Citizens" are also against their own governments
Edited on Sun Oct-30-05 02:29 PM by Orrin_73
so I doubt they have them under control or any power over them. Then again if those "Citizens" dont fight in Iraq against the Americans they will be home fighting their OWN leaders. So it works for them (Arab leaders) in some way.

13. Maybe, just maybe, the insurgents are IRAQIS!
Iraqis without jobs, or homes, or whose relatives have been slaughtered in shock and awe, and awe and awe and awe. Or, maybe, it's a couple of guys who had to lay naked in a dog pile, or stroll around nude smeared with shit, or who had to stand on boxes surrounded with water while their testicles were hooked up to car batteries, or the ones who had to wear women's underwear on their heads, or it could be the boys who were raped in prison by their captors? One of them might be the guy whose worked at the cement factory in Iraq for 30 odd years, only to be left unemployed while American contractors came in - armed to the nines - and imported concrete from out of country. Maybe, it's them? I could be wrong, but it's possible... Maybe...

23. No "maybe" about it, of course.
Hell, if someone invaded America, captured b*s* et al, and then continued to brutalize, torture, and kill Americans, I'D be an insurgent!

20. Excellent....a Catch-22
They won't end the violent insurgency until foreign armed forces leave Iraq....

Meanwhile, foreign armed forces say they won't leave Iraq until the violent insurgency ends.

Is it just me, or are BOTH sides in on this in an attempt to wage war ad infinitum? :banghead:
